Staffs are usually what males use to increase their power, by
letting their magic flow through the staff's metal. The runes on
the staff also help to increase your power. Plus games usually
have mage staffs and stuff.

Yes, but swords are made out of metal as well, right? And you
can put runes on them. And though games do have mage staves, I
play one where they can use swords (thought not dual wielding
swords) and one other item in the other hand (off-hand).

I don't see why that can't be their role. I'll add Aviator to
the list as a mercenary, since that's pretty much what the
description is.
