How to Play?

So, welcome to Colonisation.
In order to play, first hit the The Rules and have a glance.
Then hit Join the Game.
This should join you into the Roll 20, and you can then hit the
Join Game button (a pink button). This will put you into the
roller and a map.
Basic of Roll 20:
To the left is a set of tools. You can zoom out with the
magnifying glass, draw on the map with the tools and move around
the map and select things with the mouse tool. Holding right
click will let you drag the map and to delete drawings you must
click on the drawing and hit 'Delete', there is no eraser tool.
The map is split between the planet map, the space map and the
unit and tile storage area. The unit and tile storage has very
clear instructions for how to copy tiles and units across when
you need to add them to the map.
When you need to roll dice, click the text box and type in
words. Congrats, you know how to type. Now, to roll, you need to
type /r <number of dice>d<sides of dice> , for example /r 1d20
or /r 3d10. You can also add, subtract, multiply and all that.
BODMAS applies. So, /r 1d10+3 works, as does /r 1d10+3+2-3*5/2
and so on. The rulebook helpfully just gives you the dice
required, so to deal damage you just type /r <damage listed>
Announce your rolls!
When you want to roll something, make sure to announce it first.
So, if you are just practising, go:
"I am just practising"
"/r 1d20"
The reason for this is that Roll 20 has a full history, so we
can always go back and find a roll. This makes it nice and easy
to roll even if you aren't both online. Also, roll all parts of
a roll, for example with an attack if you win the battle you
deal damage and if you come close you deal counter-attack, so
you would type:
"I am rolling attack, damage and counter-attack"
/r 1d10+whatever
/r whatever damage is
/r counter-attack damage
And then, when the next person gets online they can roll and
instantly apply the effects. Makes the game quicker.
How to Post:
So, finally, how to actually play.
The Play Thread board has a post called Actions, which is how
the game is actually played. Other threads can be created by
your nerds for fun and games or discussions.
The way the game works is that a turn begins and everyone posts
their action. This can be done with fanfare and roleplay but the
actions must be obvious at the bottom. Bold, even. For example:
"The firebrand nation cannot be allowed to run rampant any
longer!
Blah blah blah!
We take the Attack/Ability and Move Asset actions."
Once everyone has announced their turns (try and only post once
to announce your actions, keep other stuff in the other threads)
the resolution phase begins. It can be done partially or
completely in the map/Roll 20 or over facebook, and is done in
order of Cunning Initiative, like explained in the rules.
Announcing rolls works well here. You can also post a second
"resolution" if you wish, explaining what you did and posting
the rolls you got. Any other discussions, debates, arguments and
questions should be kept to other threads. Essentially, each
player should only post once or twice per turn (once for
Announcing Actions, and once for Resolving if they wish)
For recording faction stats, such as faction attributes, your
towns and assets, you can use the Roll20 character sheets and
folders to keep your things organised. Or just, you know, your
own book/paper whatever.
Think that's it. Enjoy!
