The Power of...Trees

How To Use The Right Tree
Humans have been using parts of trees for medications and
healing almost as long as humanity exists. But, along the way,
they discovered what type of tree should be used for what kind
of remedy.
The big ones are best, like pines. They radiate Chi (life
force), nourish the blood, strengthen the nervous system, and
even help in longevity while feeding the soul and spirit. Pines,
which are often the subjects of ancient Chinese poetry and
paintings, are considered to be "immortal trees". Pines happen
to be my favorite tree. :)
There are, however, other trees which you can choose from. The
big ones have maximum energy while those that stand near streams
are also the best.
Trees have different characteristics. Some are hotter or warmer
(Yin(female)/Yang(male) or Pitta/Vata (elements)). With constant
practice, you can distinguish one from the other.
[li]Cypresses and cedars can lower the temperature and can feed
Yin energy (cool/female)[/li]
[li]Willows fight the dry winds and eliminate excess moisture
from the body, reduce blood pressure and strengthen the urinary
tract and bladder[/li]
[li]Elms can calm the mind and strengthen the stomach[/li]
[li]Maples fight the dry winds and help reduce any pain[/li]
[li]Carobs help eliminate internal heat and balance conditions
of the heart[/li]
[li]Banyan trees or Bengali figs purify your heart and help
eliminate moisture in the body[/li]
[li]Cinnamon can remove the cold from the heart and the
stomach[/li]
[li]Hawthorn helps in digestion, strengthens the intestines and
fights low blood pressure[/li]
[li]Fir helps absorb bruises to reduce sweating and heal bone
fractures[/li]
[li]Birch helps lower body temperature, eliminate body moisture
and detoxifies the body[/li]
[li]Prune trees feed the spleen, the stomach, the pancreas as
well as calm the mind[/li]
[li]Figs help eliminate excess heat in the body by increasing
salivation. It also nourishes the spleen and helps cure
diarrhea[/li]
Keep in mind that small trees don't have enough energy to
accommodate you while gigantic trees may drown you with their
energy. It's best to select one that is medium sized and robust.

How to Establish an Energy Relationship With The Tree
You can create a silent communion rite with the tree that is
understood by both of you and the tree. This is good practice to
actually learn to bond with living beings. In this society,
people are often very introverted and for those in the magic
community, we are empathic and tend to stay away from people as
a whole.
First though, you must see the personality of the tree and its
ife. Some trees are very generous and quickly give you the
energy you need. Other trees are weak or ill and need YOUR
healing energy, first. It is a give and receive relationship.
Some trees are "friendly" while some are plain indifferent,
depending on their energy.
You can work with all of them to find which tree works best for
you. I find that I will immediately bond with certain trees.
Trees ARE living beings. That was one of the first very
impressive lessons I learned as a child from my grandfather, who
took me into his backyard and took out a knife. He said, "trees
are alive, they feel pain and they bleed," and he showed me by
cutting the tree and then he said, "always remember this, that
this tree is hurting because I did not respect its life. Just
because it doesn't move, doesn't mean it isn't alive." This has
been proven by the studies of Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, who hooked
plants up to electrodes and studied their fear/pain response.
So, be open and give the trees your respect without pushing them
too hard to bend to your purpose. The most important thing when
establishing a connection is to just be near the tree so you can
touch it, to open yourself up shamelessly and to be clear in
your intent while showing love. You can use this exercise to
practice for approaching the gods...because this is how I also
approach the gods, and they in return, reciprocate. When we do
not order them around and show respect, they are more receptive
to being gracious with us.

By activating these four elements you will establish an energy
relationship with the tree:
[li]Touch[/li]
[li]Openness[/li]
[li]Sincerity[/li]
[li]Love[/li]
Please just make sure that you spend at least 30 minutes around
the tree. It takes time to bond...they're living at a very slow
pace. However, some trees might respond quicker depending on
their energy. You never know. Just give them ample time in case
they're not real fast.
Here are some things you can practice:
1. Hugging the tree (yes, you can...even if you are a
god-in-progress)
You can practice with a tree to absorb its energy then return it
right back to the tree! It's not just a simple hug.
Yin Cycle: Use the palms and the insides of the arms
Yang Cycle: Use the fingertips and outsides of the arms/hands.
So, you can stand at half arms length away from the tree to do
that and look at it and project your energy to it and allow it
to share its energy in return.
You can sit facing the tree. Use your palms to absorb the tree
Chi and send it back down into the roots about ten feet and on
back up...like a fountain does with water.
You can meditate near the tree, under its branches. Absorb the
trees energy this way. It should come around and down and wrap
around you and flow into you.
You can stand facing the tree (not touching it) and absorb the
trees energy through your crown.

How The Healing Process Begins
Visit the tree regularly, building a relationship with trees
takes a longer time than building one with humans.
However, if you keep returning to the same tree, you are likely
to form a lasting bond with it.
Once you visit it regularly, it will soon expect you. Some say
that it might even miss your presence. I used to have a pine
tree that someone had cut a gaping heart into. It bled from it
(resin). When I met the tree, I apologized to it for the crime
done to it and I regularly sent healing and love through that
wound. I would hold that tree and love on that tree. I never
asked for its energy...but I still love that tree.
Creating a spiritual communion with trees is like making love
that requires sensuality and tenderness. When you finally
establish that bond, you don't need to control the situation.
Just allow yourself to relax and melt in that connection.
Allow the tree to guide you in your healing. It might remedy
your issue, or it might give you intuitive guidance as to how to
find additional help.
If nothing else, it will heal the spiritual aspect of your
problem.
In Japan, people traditionally practice "forest bathing," where
they spend quiet time absorbing the wisdom of ancient forests,
taking long walks among the trees to stimulate their immune
system. When doing magic, it is important that we ground
often...and this is a very effective method. I know you may be
thinking this is sounding a bit hippy/love n light. But it's
not. It's common sense. Connecting to your planet will allow you
to heal, ground, and connect on a level that you might not
ordinarily do. It will help balance any darkness.
In Taoism, students are encouraged to meditate among trees, and
it is believed that the trees will absorb negative energies,
replacing them with healthy ones. So they work to transmute.
Trees are seen as a source of emotional and physical healing,
and themselves as meditators, absorbing universal energies.
Why not take advantage of what these sentient beings have to
truly offer us.
