Social Media Admin?

Anyone interested in administering our Social Media (Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram, and maybe Meetup)? If no one from the
current exec/admin team wants it, I will ask the event
coordinators. If no one wants to do it, I suggest we shut these
accounts down. I think having stagnant accounts is worse than
having no accounts at all.

Facebook - keep
Twitter - no clue (don't use it)
Instagram - ditto
Meetup - cancel (but there are people out there looking to take
it over - is that a good idea?)

Facebook is the only social media I would be in favour of
keeping. As for the possibility of someone taking over our name
on meetup, I don't think it would be much of an issue in the
long run. Meetup is saturated with outdoor groups and a great
many of them tend to just fizzle out over time as a result. If
we have name protection rights through our incorporation status
then by all means let's use that otherwise I wouldn't hold onto
the membership just to prevent someone else from taking it over.

I think Meetup has to go. As for Instagram and Twitter, if I'm
going to be the one doing our social media, they'll be gone. If
someone else wants to step up (maybe an event coordinator, since
no one from the Exec/Admin team seems inclined), they may be
willing to keep those things going. I personally don't see the
value, but then... I'm on the old side for Twitter, and on the
ancient side for Instagram. I just don't get them.

You can keep the meetup open with the free version, this way, no
one can steal the name.

I don't. Mark McG kinda took over it when it was implemented. If
we do so, or if possible, only a few members would be allowed.
On the top of my head it is 40 members and we have over 700 now
I believe.
What is the yearly cost?

Something crazy, like... well over $300/year... for something
that we get essentially no value from.
I think our name is protected under Alberta Societies. If we
dissolve our non-profit status, even WE aren't allowed to keep
using the name, so I think that would afford us some protection
from someone starting a meetup using our name. Perhaps Julie
has some info, or opinions, to share about that. I'll ask her
to look at this.

Seems like they don't have that option any longer? I would not
want some other person using our name though. :(

Yeah, that would be disappointing. Like I said, though, I think
we could shut them down if they tried because of our registered
status.
