Thank you. I'll look into that Meetup option. $24/month is
much more palatable, and worth keeping if it prevents someone
from using our name.
There are lots of ways to find new members... I've tried lots of
different things, and my mantra is, it's not enough to just find
new members... we want to find "good" new members - some methods
of finding new members just end up creating us a bunch of work
for little or no benefit. I'm not sure about kijiji. Did the
people who found us that way turn out to be "good" members
(i.e., they attended events, and were a good match with our
"culture")? If so, then I whole-heartedly support the idea of
resuming that practice. If you're willing to do that, Yannick,
that would be great. We don't currently have anyone on our
"Marketing and Promotion Committee". That is a deficit that I
was planning to start addressing once we've got the membership
fees thing sorted out... I'm kind of keeping a few things in
"limbo" until then. Can you have a look at the "How You Can
Help" page (
HTML https://www.calgaryoutdoorclub.com/aboutus/help.asp)<br
/>at the job descriptions under "Marketing and Promotion" and le
t
me know if you'd be interested in taking on "Advertising and
Promotion Coordinator"? If not, but you're willing to do the
Kijiji posts, can you come up with a title for yourself that I
can put down within that Committee? Something like "Advertising
Administrator" or "Kijiji Coordinator" or some such?
[/quote]
Not sure if they became good members, that's where my
investigation stopped: to see if the promotion worked. It was
free and low maintenance/effort.
Even if only (example) 10% of them become and stay active, it is
still a win. One single member can make a major difference in
posted events or attendance. Example: You, Duane posted tons of
events, Gord Parker and a few cyclists also did. At my peak,
before my new career path, I posted about 3 events a week and
also joined others.
I could resume the kijiji post but would not want to add other
responsibilities unto myself as my availability is
unstable/intermittent. I don't mind doing a bit of this and that
but I would not want to commit to tasks I cannot do.
We also had business cards made to give around to potential new
enthusiasts. Having little badges made to attach to our
backpacks is silent promotion or conversation starters and could
help too. :)

Fair enough, but you can't blame me for trying. ;)
Hold off on Kijiji for now while we get the membership fees
sorted out. I'll touch base with you about it in January.
Do you think that people would still be interested in carrying,
and handing out, business cards? Depending on the cost, we
could get more cards printed and distribute them, but I'm not
sure of their value as far as bringing new members. We could
also give volunteers a file with the business card design that
they could print themselves on card stock. I've done that
before. What are your thoughts about the business cards? Do
you think they provided significant value? Do you think
volunteers would want to carry them? How would you see that all
working as far as printing, etc?

Will do.
When I had my small online business, I had ordered business
cards from vistaprint and it was dirt cheap. Not sure if it
still is though.
I liked the idea as people you meet may forget about the website
but when they find the card later on, it reminds them of us and
our name and the website URL is right on there.
People may not want to carry them around for distribution
though. Having a template for people to print is a good idea. We
already have that menu option for our membership card.

Yeah, the Membership Cards are a different beast. If you want
to print business cards, you should have proper business card
stock from, for example, Staples, and a properly formatted Word
Document that fits the business card stock. We have that if
anyone wants to use it.
