       Things that frustrate
   DIR By: Sergey Pupko

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys, an off-topic post about things that frustrate...
Something I wanted to get off my chest... I bought SPA track in
iRacing a few days ago, put some practice into it and am fast
enough to run in the top 10, even top 5... And I've done 3 races
so far, each of them running well and with 15 minutes or so
       crash out. My own fault.
I'm trying to build iRating, but I am losing SR and iR... At
this rate it won't be long before I drop below 1K iR which will
suck much... Need a little encouragement because this week has
       sucked for me :(
By the way, Spa is a fast and smooth track and I love it but
what will it take for me to be able to finish a 45 minute race,
let alone take part in the 24 hrs? I mean it is so fast and so
streamlined that you make one wrong move and it'll just put you
into the wall because most of the time, the wall is only feet
away and there isn't run-off space to speak of most of the time.

I was in the last spa race with you.. was up to 5th i think then
       binned it myself hah..
Youre a fast guy and from what i see probably better than most
of the people we race against, just keep making the right moves
on the track, and they'll start going your way again!
Also, jump into the solstice or mx5 if you havnt in a while..
you'll crush most of those fields with only a few laps practice.
But for SR, just dont expect half of those guys to hold a
proper line/expect the divebombs! You can more or less lap those
cars at about 80-90% pace to avoid any incidents, and still end
       up top 3-5 easily

I don't know if I can get into a GT car or anything that doesn't
rely on downforce. I may be quick in a downforce car but that's
about it, unfortunately. But yeah, if I get so low that I end up
in the bottom split, I might be able to make up some iR, but
let's face it, half the field in the bottom split will probably
end up crashing into you lol.

I am going to give it one final shot in an hour. I know that if
I don't crash I'll make up iR. Maybe I should just take few
chances. Last race I was passing a GT car on the inside of T12.
He gave me room but I rode the curb a bit too much and when I
got on the power, lost control and no amount of 2 pedal mashing
could save me from the wall.

Hey Sergey, So I've been around iRacing for a while and all I
can do is share my experience. First off I not longer do public
races like I once did a long time ago simply because I don't
have the time for what I get out of the racing. It's why I do
endurance events now or why I would mostly race in leagues.
However you want to climb the iR and SR latter so this is what I
       recommend;
       1) Your number one stat you should be concerned with is amounts
of finishes, not wins or top 5s or iR.
At first, don't race for iR, race for SR = your number one
priority is to race clean, smart and strategically, that means
finishing lower down and losing iR sometimes. Ya I know, doesn't
sound like fun and is counter intuitive but you'll see later...
Don't go into a race for position, go into a race for SR gains
only, that means starting from the pits or backing off and only
passing when safe. No risky passes on the inside, only easy
passes so that means waiting behind someone, putting pressure on
them forcing them to make the inevitable off track/wreck
       mistake.
Do as many TT as you can = major SR gains when combined with a
clean race. IF you can't to clean TT = more practice and
patience or you'll never finish races cleanly. But if you're
able to do clean TTs You'll be 4.99 A licence in no time if you
listen to me. If you race for SR you'll see a natural thing
happen; you will finish more races = more SR and iR. And because
you have tones of SR you'll be able to push more and then bring
       up your iR later.
2)Pick races that are not very populated or if have high
numbers, don't qualify and start from the pitts.
If you agree that most guys will crash out, then all you have to
do is finish clean and you'll automatically be in the top 5,
especially in races with lower participants, so join races with
7-10 guys or even do the lotus 49 races that only need 5 guys to
go official and finish each race = lots SR and iR gains.
Race cars that are easy to race clean like the Volkswagen and
Skip Barber but only with small amounts of participants. Start
from the pits and every car you pass or wrecks out = more SR and
       iR for you.
       3) Once you've gotten you A 4.99 license and iR around 1700, now
you can start racing for wins and top 5 but until then you'll
have to be disciplined and hold back the natural racer in you
that wants to pass everything and compete. If you lap safely,
you'll find yourself naturally in the top 5 almost every race.
Forget about speed and finish first!
I speak from experience and even recent experience, last year I
was staying at a friends house and he's been in iRacing for a
long time and was still at a D license. I bet him I could get
him to B before I left, he didn't believe me, he said it's too
dame hard and he's a I guy I raced with in rfactor so he had
       plenty of experience.
Anywho, after some TTs and a few races his license went from a D
to high B, I was at his place only for 3 days. And I did exactly
what I just told you to do. Forget about winning, be clean and
safe at all costs, even being slow but finish every single race!
       Good luck bud!

Michael, that's how I started my iRacing career. I actually had
2 older accounts that I binned. This one I decided to start
fresh with a perspective of being an actual driver. Of course,
knowing it's only a simulator doesn't help foster that, but it
worked at the start and I worked up to License A which I held
for a while. Now on my way to getting A license again unless my
SR drops below 3, which shouldn't happen unless the next few
races are absolute wreck fests, which they usually aren't.
I don't worry about SR right now because that's easy to make up,
iR, on the other hand, not so much.

I hear ya, iR is more difficult but what really kills iR are
       DNFs... just saying...

Yep.. Last 3 races both DNF'd, and I dropped 100 iR since then..
       maybe even more.

Well, I gave Spa one last try and it didn't disappoint. Ran a
quali session right before it, managed a 1:23.8 which put me in
3rd (out of the 4 cars that qualified). I stuck with the top 2
and left 4th place in the dust and the 2 leaders went 2-wide at
the end of Kemmel straight.. I pretty much knew they were
crashing and sure enough, 2nd place spun the rears while he was
downshifting and turning, hit the pole sitter and that was
pretty much it. The guy that started 2nd was out of the race,
the guy he hit was still running but was way down... Spent time
in the pit. So I ran about 5 or so laps with pressure from a guy
who started 4th but he fell back due to spins/mistakes. I ran a
pretty flawless race, a few close moments and nice saves later I
       won :D
Made up 98 iR and .14 SR.
Moral of the story: Spa rewards not the fast and aggressive, but
the smooth and consistent, even if they qualified 2+ seconds
       slower lol.

I love Spa in the GT3! i would've come and joined you in the HPD
but Gt3 was at Bathurst that week and i can't give up a race
like that. But, smooth and consistent wins races, Works best
with track like Spa, Bathurst and Nurbergring.
