Taking down the elk. [Open, hunting patrol.]

Reika's strong paws thudded against the ground as she swiftly
ran after the elk. Reika was the leader of the Frostmoon Pack
and she was the fastest wolf. She was born to be a hunter, and
leader. Just like her family had been leaders of the werewolf
pack.
Reika was leading out a hunting patrol. Her deputy and some
other hunters had come with her to the patrol. One of her most
trusted warriors was in charge of the fort until they got back.
They were in their wolf forms and they were chasing after a fat
male elk with lots of meat on his bones.
Spring had recently arrived, and this hunt was the perfect way
to kick off spring. With a big fat elk to feed the entire pack
and fill up that food storage. Reika felt like she and her
patrol were certain to catch the elk, she could feel it.
Reika was at the front of the patrol, her deputy behind her.
They were gaining on the elk. Reika looked over her shoulder at
her deputy. They were running through the forest and if they
were going to catch the elk successfully they needed to do it in
open land. "Try to chase the elk out into the open." She barked
to her trusted deputy. "Then we can ambush it and take it down."

"Agreed." Uttered Maruka.
Maruka may have not been as fast as Reika, but she was swift and
silent. She trotted behind the elk, and nipped at his heels.
Feeling the muscles in the elk bunch up, preparing to run,
Maruka swerved and chased the elk into an open field with the
dwenking moon shining upon the elk's sweaty body and her shiny
fur. Even though the elk was young, he was tiring and Maruka was
just getting started. Maruka fell back and waited for Reika to
make the killing blow.
OOC: whew! That is by far the longest post I have made on my
phone!

Reika carefully watched Maruka chance the young elk out into the
open. The pack leader's eyes lit up with determination as she
bolted out of the forest and into the open field, fast as a
cheetah. The rest of the hunters ran behind. She could almost
hear the hungry whimpers of her pack. They had lost many and
suffered through the winter. She had lost her father, the former
pack leader, during the winter. In January she had became
leader. She was not going to let her werewolf pack suffer
through the spring.
Reika surged forwards at the elk, pushing off of her strong hind
legs. She landed on the elk's back and dug her fangs into the
elk's neck. Meanwhile the rest of the wolves on the patrol
hungrily bit at the elk's legs to force the helpless elk to lie
down.
The elk thrashed in pain as Reika tore into his windpipe. The
elk shuttered, and then died.
Reika stepped off the elk's body and then turned to look at
Maruka and the rest of the hunters. Nobody was hurt by the elks
flailing hooves and they had a fat elk for dinner. Reika lifted
her muzzle to the sky and howled. The rest of the patrol joined
in.
As morning began to come, most of the patrol turned into humans
and began carrying the elk back to the fort. Reika turned into a
human and began leading the patrol back towards the fort. While
they walked, Reika turned and looked down at Maruka, who was
still in her wolf form. "Thanks for your help." Reika said
cheerfully to her deputy.

Maruka gave Reika a wolfy grin. She did not like being human, so
many of the werewolves in Frostmoon did not know what Maruka
looked like human. The elk would sustain the wolves for days to
come. Spring had brought it's bounty.

A few minutes passed before they got the elk back to the fort.
They put the elk on the food pile and some of the wolves began
to feast. The pups went first, of course, and once they were
full the rest of the elk was given to the members of the pack.
Reika was in her room. She was in her human form and she was
looking over the notes she had made. The elk had fed the pack
well, but they needed to get more. The elk was the only thing of
food they had besides some scraps and bones.
Reika hadn't eaten, and there probably wasn't going to be enough
for her, but she didn't want any food. She was devoted to her
pack as a leader. She would eat after everyone's hunger was
satisfied.
Reika looked at one of her notes, and then she remembered. There
was a human farm near their fort that had cows and sheep.
If they could steal some of those animals during the night, it
would surely be enough to last the pack for months...

Selina smiled happily as the pups tore into the elk. The elk was
big, but the longest it would last would be less than a day. The
pack needed more food, and Selina knew just where to look. There
was a big forest that skirted the edges of the Frostmoon
territory. It would be full of moose at this time of year. The
only problem was if they accidentally passed into the holy
fields of the Bluecomets, they would be doomed. Selina skipped
up the stairs to Reika's room to tell her about the risky but
rewarding hunt.
