Similarities between atheism and a religion
   DIR By: Thinker1

Religion often interprets the world through a narrative. In
Christianity God created the world, man sinned, and then
suffering and pain entered. Christ came and redeemed man, to
bring people to heaven which will ultimately end all suffering.
In atheism, evolution created all of us, and mankind was in the
darkness of irrationality and religion. Heros of atheism such as
Copernicus and Galileo heroically challenged this dark
irrationality. People bravely stood up to the darkness and when
Darwin came, a new era began. Man was, redeemed and could now
live as intellectual atheist. Science and reason, like the Holy
Spirit in Christianity, will guide us into all truth.
Honestly seems very similar. Modern atheism does seem like a
       sort of pseudo-religion.

       Hi Thinker1,
       Good thought provoking post.
On a point of order, I don't think either Copernicus or Galileo
would describe themselves as atheists, possibly not Darwin
either. Their achievements are in science, not atheism. Science
is not the preserve of atheists: instead it shows theists the
       wonders of God's creation.

Well said. It seems ironic that the hero's of atheism were not
       even atheists.

Indeed, there are even some atheists who meet once a week on
Sunday to discuss their atheism. Atheism is not technically a
religion, but it has a lot of things in common.
This is a really good web site for articles about medieval
       science and philosophy:

They myths that many atheists uncritically accept about Galileo
are astounding, though not all of them do.

Thanks for the links! I have always wanted to read more about
those Galileo myths and such. It is unfortunate that believers
in God are painted as though they didn't believe or that they
would be atheists if they were alive today.

Didn't the Supreme Court of the United States rule that atheism
is equivalent to a religion and thus protected as per the 1st
       amendment?

Interesting… I never heard of that! If you have any links about
that feel free to post them.
