       Andy:
Saw the Kerry Wood moment when he pitched his last game
       yesterday.
Got to admit it was cool to see him get the standing ovation
along with his son running out to greet him after being taken
       out the game.

       IFL team releases Terrell Owens
       Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com
       May 30, 2012, 2:45 AM ET
Terrell Owens' tenure in the Indoor Football League came to an
unceremonious end Tuesday when the Allen Wranglers released the
       controversial former NFL receiver.
Owens signed with the Wranglers in February, receiving a
six-figure salary and an ownership stake in the franchise
located about 30 minutes north of Dallas. Owner Jon Frankel said
Owens' ownership stake has been terminated because he violated
       his contract.
Frankel cited Owens' refusal to play in two upcoming road games
that are critical to the Wranglers' playoff hopes and Owens'
       no-show for a scheduled appearance at a local children's
hospital as the breaking points in the team's relationship with
       the receiver.
"Our fans are amongst the best in the league, and it is
impossible to maintain a player when even our fans notice and
comment on a player's lack of effort both on and off the field,"
Frankel said in a statement released to ESPNDallas.com. "We need
to do what is best for this team, our fans and this community."
Owens, who was not required to play in all of the Wranglers'
road games, released a statement through his publicist late
Tuesday night. "I appreciate the opportunity that Mr. Frankel
gave me and wish the Allen Wranglers all the best moving
       forward," he said.
The statement called the manner in which Owens was released
"unfortunate." It said Owens played all games according to his
contract and that his legal team is addressing details of the
Wranglers' news release but that Owens' representatives could
not comment beyond that. It also said Owens is focused on
       returning to the NFL.
The 38-year-old Owens, whose tenures with the San Francisco
49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys all ended
acrimoniously, had hoped that playing for the Wranglers could
help him get back in the NFL. He received no interest from NFL
teams last season despite ranking second all-time in receiving
yards (15,934), fourth in touchdowns (156) and sixth in catches
       (1,078).
Owens played one season each for the Buffalo Bills and
Cincinnati Bengals after being released by the Cowboys after the
2008 season despite being one year into a four-year, $34 million
contract extension. He caught 72 passes for 983 yards and nine
touchdowns for the Bengals in 2010.
After Owens recovered from knee surgery to repair a torn ACL he
suffered after the 2010 season, agent Drew Rosenhaus organized a
nationally televised workout to prove his client was healthy. No
       scouts attended the workout.
Owens caught 35 passes for 420 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight
       games for the Wranglers.
"It's disappointing and unfortunate," Frankel said of releasing
Owens, "but [he] could no longer be tolerated by the Wrangler
       organization."

Fickle winds blow hard for Chicago baseball teams
By Bob Nightengale, USA TODAY - Updated 4h 46m ago
The Chicago White Sox debated long this offseason and ultimately
decided they didn't want to become the Chicago Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs, after hiring Theo Epstein as president in
October, determined they no longer wanted to be the Chicago
       White Sox.
The two franchises, separated by 10 miles across the city,
currently are universes apart in philosophy.
The Cubs stink this year, and, to be honest, Epstein, despite
public proclamations to the contrary, knew they'd stink. Maybe
they didn't quite envision a 12-game losing streak that ended
Monday, one of the five longest in franchise history. They
figured they'd win more than 18 of their first 50 games. But
hey, if you're going to be bad, you might as well go for the
gusto and be so awful you gain top draft picks.
The White Sox are 29-22, winners of eight consecutive games and
in first place in the American League Central. No one in the
free world, let alone the front office, predicted this kind of
success. General manager Kenny Williams told news reporters this
spring that the White Sox could surprise, but he and the front
office also told rookie manager Robin Ventura not to expect
anything more than a .500 season.

St. Louis turns down Rams' $700 million dome renovation plan
       The Sports Xchange
       June 1, 2012 11:36 a.m. CDT
The St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission on Friday
turned down a $700 million proposal by the NFL Rams to renovate
       the Edward Jones Dome.
"It was expected," said Jeff Rainford, St. Louis Mayor Francis
Slay's chief of staff, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I
think the Rams probably expected it ... and are preparing for
       arbitration."
The Rams and the CVC will go into arbitration if they can't make
       a deal by June 15.
The Rams' lease allows the team to leave the city by 2015 if the
dome is not a first-tier facility in 15 areas. Their proposal
was a counteroffer to the convention commission's $124 plan.
Rainford, who said he was against the proposal, said the bid was
too expensive and impede the city from booking large conventions
       during the construction.

Man if the Sox can't beat the Cubs then they're finished. They
got the Yanks in New York next week. Weak hitting will get them
blown out against the damn Yankees.

       NFL to delay late-afternoon kickoffs
       Sports Xchange
       10:11 a.m. CDT, June 28, 2012
Last season, the NFL instituted new on-field kickoff rules. This
season, the kickoff adjustment is schedule-related.
To avoid overlap with the end of games beginning at noon Chicago
time, the league is shifting its mid-afternoon game start time
to 3:25 p.m. CT for games that were scheduled to start at 3:15.
Games scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CT kickoffs remain unchanged.
