[b]CHICAGO BULLS: Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng has been
cleared to play for Britain in the European Basketball
Championships after resolving a dispute over insurance. Deng
says on his website Wednesday that "significant liability
issues" have been overcome to allow him to play in the
tournament. The championships run from Aug. 31-Sept. 18 in
       Lithuania.
Cleveland Cavaliers: One of the cast of characters in line for
the Cavaliers' radio play-by-play job has been eliminated. ESPN
Radio's Marc Kestecher has pulled out of the running, a source
said. He recently received a new contract from the Bristol,
Conn., media giant. He worked for WKNR in Cleveland in the
mid-90s. He has been with ESPN for 11 years. Kestecher was
thought to be a major contender for the Cavs' position left
vacant by Joe Tait's retirement after the 2010-11 season. Tait,
a Hall of Famer, left the position he held for 39 years.
Detroit Pistons: If the Pistons and their new coach aren’t on
the same page next year, lack of communication from the top will
be the least likely cause. It was that type of clarity of
vision, by all accounts, that won Frank the job over a field
that was reported to have included Mike Woodson, Kelvin Sampson,
Bill Laimbeer and Patrick Ewing. “It was kind of a unanimous
feeling throughout the people involved that he was by far the
best candidate for the job,” Pistons president Joe Dumars said
in introducing Frank. “It’s a sense of relief to have him on
board with us. We all think he’s going to do a great job here.”
Indiana Pacers: Ford said if the lockout drags past November,
he might consider offers to play overseas like a number of
players are considering, including Hornets star point guard
Chris Paul. Ford, a seven-year veteran and a former Texas
Longhorns standout, played the past three seasons with the
Indiana Pacers. "I guess by that point, I would have to consider
it,'' Ford said. "But it's not really that many jobs overseas.
If it doesn't happen, I'd pretty much think I would do some
       volunteer coaching somewhere.''
Milwaukee Bucks: Skyliners Frankfurt made official the arrival
of the rookie Jon Leuer. The power forward was selected by
Milwaukee Bucks in the 2011 NBA Draft with the 40th overall.
Leuer signed an annual deal with NBA out when lockout ends. In
his senior year at college with Wisconsin Badgers, Leuer
       averaged 18.3ppg and 7.2rpg.

[b]CHICAGO BULLS: Phil Jackson said the Chicago Bulls
overachieved last season, and he subscribes to the conventional
thinking that the Bulls need to add pieces to help Derrick Rose.
"They I think overachieved last year as far as record and how
they got to the spots they got to in the playoffs," Jackson said
Thursday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "They still
have to have some steady shooters from the outside to compliment
the penetration they have, and then [Carlos Boozer has to have
that post-up game that he was brought there to give them. "They
just can't be one-dimensional in that regard. They have to have
those complimentary pieces to assist Rose in his game."
Cleveland Cavaliers: Only one time has Nick Gilbert asked his
dad why he'd been diagnosed with neurofibromatosis (NF), a nerve
disorder that causes tumors to grow anywhere in the body at any
time. He was 10 and had just returned home from emergency brain
surgery. "I told him I didn't know," said Dan Gilbert, the owner
of the Cavaliers. "I told him, 'It was just the luck of the
draw. You pulled the card.' "He thought for a minute and said,
'Well, I'm a pretty lucky guy. My dad owns an NBA team. There's
only 30 of those cards I could have pulled.' "He's that kind of
       person."
Detroit Pistons: Veteran forward Tracy McGrady, who played for
Detroit last season, also chimed in on Stern: "Lotta perceived
momentum at conclusion of [Thursday's] talks... looks like david
stern hit us [Friday] with one of them MJ pump fakes…."
Indiana Pacers: Stars are supposed to recruit other stars. Have
you talked to players, trying to sell them on Indiana? You guys
have a lot of cap room. Granger: I’m always recruiting. I know
getting a power forward is at the top of our list. David West
and Carl Landry come to mind. Nene, too. I have talked to David
West and have reached out to Carl Landry, but he and I haven’t
gotten in touch yet. I haven’t reached out to Nene yet — he’s
out of the country. I reached out to Carlos Boozer last season,
       too.
Milwaukee Bucks: Why wouldn’t you be one of the first players
going to play overseas during the lockout? It’s something you’ve
done before. Brandon Jennings: I just don’t feel like I need to
do that again. It’s not all about the money sometimes. I love
the game and the game never stops. A couple years ago, I wasn’t
getting paid for it, so it really don’t matter to me. For me, I
just enjoy going to other hoods and playing.

[b]CHICAGO BULLS: In an interview with the Tribune, Noah for the
first time revealed the five-year, $60 million extension he
signed in October 2010 and which began this season contributed
to his struggles. "Yeah, no question, I thought about that,"
Noah said. "Sometimes you feel like because you're given so much
money you're expected to do things. That's not the right
mentality to have as a player. "I have to play my game. I have
to have fun out there. If I don't, I'm not the same player."
Cleveland Cavaliers: Ramon Sessions has been traded once in his
career and, to hear him tell it, he's been linked to one rumor
or another for the past three years. So, the Cavaliers point
guard was hardly shocked to learn of a Yahoo Sports report that
states his club has discussed dealing him to the Los Angeles
Lakers. Since the Cavaliers used the first overall pick to draft
Kyrie Irving last June, there's been speculation concerning
Sessions' future in Cleveland. "It's been like that for me for a
few years now," said Sessions, 25, who was dealt to the Cavs
from Minnesota in the summer of 2010. "There's always something
with that. I haven't been traded yet. Cleveland now, Cleveland
later. I'm not really into all of that. "I try to block it out.
It's tough at times, but you have to be mentally prepared to
       play basketball."
Detroit Pistons: The Knicks scored more points than any Pistons
opponent. They shot the best field-goal percentage (60). The
27-point final margin marked the Pistons’ worst loss of the
season, and was their seventh loss of 20-plus points, including
all three games on this four-game road trip so far. New York
also took advantage of another rash of Pistons turnovers -- 22
in all -- to shoot an astonishing 26-of-30 on shots in the
paint, and hand Detroit its sixth consecutive loss. "We’re not
even putting ourselves in position where these games are in
doubt," Frank said. "I think we’re all embarrassed that we’re
not doing better, and we’re all involved in it. We all have to
raise our hand and figure out areas we can improve."
Indiana Pacers: Pacers guard George Hill suffered a chip
fracture in his ankle Tuesday night against the New Jersey Nets,
the team announced following the game. He is listed as out
indefinitely. The injury occurred in the third quarter Tuesday
night when George shot a pull-up jumper from inside the key and
Nets center Johan Petro undercut him coming down.
Milwaukee Bucks: It's a lock Ilyasova will be making more than
his current salary of $2.54 million for whatever team he plays
for next season. But Ilyasova said he's trying not to look too
far down the road. "I'm trying to whatever I can to help the
team," Ilyasova said. "Hopefully, we can finish the season good,
make the playoffs and go as far as we can go in the playoffs.
That's the main goal for right now. "It's hard to say where I'll
be next season. It's going to be about the money difference
(whether he remains in the NBA or goes overseas). It's always
business. "I don't want to think about it because I don't want
it to affect my game. We'll see what happens."

[b]CHICAGO BULLS: How's Luol Deng doing? Joel Freeland: A player
like him, he doesn't need to be at 100 percent to play great.
He's a player that can bring different things to the court all
the time. With his experience, he's always helping other people.
He does all the things we need him to do. Even if he's not at
100 percent physically, it doesn't show. When he's playing you
       can't tell if he's not 100 percent.
Cleveland Cavaliers: While MarShon Brooks remains openly
available, the Cavs had little interest in him before last
summer’s draft and don’t appear to be interested in acquiring
him now, either. Brooks has the reputation of being a prolific
scorer on dismal teams. He put up big numbers his senior year
for a bad Providence team and averaged 12.6 points as a rookie
on an equally bad Nets team. Questions remain about how
effective a player and scorer he would be on a good team. The
Cavaliers have remained quiet on all trade talks. “The Cavs are
very tight-lipped,” one agent with a player involved in the
talks said. “None of this is leaking from their end. I respect
       them for that.”
Detroit Pistons: A source close to the situation tells the
Detroit News that "it's a pretty good chance" Ben Wallace will
return to the Pistons for another season.
Indiana Pacers: With Indianapolis Star report Pacers to match
offer on Roy Hibbert, Portland could turn to JaVale McGee.
Nuggets seem content to see what the market is for McGee before
       jumping in with anything,.
Milwaukee Bucks: Bucks General Manager John Hammond announced
the following statement with regard to free agency: “We are
engaged in free agent negotiations with Ersan Ilyasova. We
intend to enter into a player contract with Ersan once the
       moratorium period has ended.”

[b]CHICAGO BULLS: Point guard Patrick Beverley has worked out
for three NBA teams, including the Chicago Bulls, and is still
examining his options for next season, his agent said on Monday.
Cleveland Cavaliers: Source familiar with Lakers-Cavs-Magic
talks says potential trade not dead, but in holding pattern.
Teams seem to be weighing options, with Magic, in particular,
seeing what else might be out there
Detroit Pistons: While fans await news on whether Ben Wallace
will return for his 17th season, he shed some light on the
situation this week in Virginia. Speaking with Richmond, Va., TV
station WTVR, he said he is "50-50" about returning to the
Pistons. According to the report, Wallace was preparing to
participate in a summer league he sponsors, and he indicated his
performance would help him decide. "I'll be out here," Wallace
said. "How much of a player (he still is) remains to be seen."
When the Pistons sign second-round draft pick Khris Middleton,
they will have a full roster of 15 players under contract, so
they would have to create a roster spot -- likely via a trade
       for a draft pick.
Indiana Pacers: Donnie Walsh: "We're going to spend the rest
of the summer looking to see if there's anything else we can do.
The reason is, you have to look at the other teams. I think New
York is going to be better. Miami is going to be better. Miami
ended up developing into a team. That's why they won the title
last season. Brooklyn is going to be better. We have to go up a
level. This team has taken a step each of the past two years.
This team is together. They are really committed to trying to
       become a contending team.
Milwaukee Bucks: With three weeks into free agency and the
Olympic Games around the corner, Argentinean swingman Carlos
Delfino remains unsigned. Currently preparing for the tournament
with the National Team in Barcelona, Delfino said Saturday he's
hearing from several teams around the NBA. The Bucks have not
been one of them, though, and Delfino is a little upset about
it. "I expected to have at least a conversation [with
Milwaukee]," Delfino told HoopsHype. "I ended up aggravating my
injury because I wanted to play with the Bucks. It hurts me a
little bit that they have not even reached out to me. That's
life, things happen. I learned from the experience. Coach Scott
[Skiles] and the owner [Herb Kohl] have been very good to me.
The rest... I expected a little bit more. Sometimes you expect
not to be rewarded, but to be recognized for your effort,
playing through injury and doing things for the group... When
       that doesn't happen, I don't say that I feel betrayed, but I
feel overlooked. Even though it's a business, I think the
general manager should have maintained the personal relationship
and put value on other things aside from a contract. As a
veteran player, I thought it was always good to play no matter
what [despite the injuries] and so far it has only played to my
       disadvantage."

[b]CHICAGO BULLS: Vice president John Paxson and general
manager Gar Forman carefully assembled a roster that fit
together seamlessly when everybody was healthy, which was rare
last season. They undoubtedly tried to build this roster just as
meticulously, but whether this one will be as successful as last
season’s version remains to be seen. Complicating the process is
the void left by Rose’s absence, which extends beyond his
considerable ability. Rose is the player most responsible for
setting the pace and holding teammates to a high standard, which
he won’t be able to do until he recovers from ACL surgery, and
nobody, least of all Rose, knows when that might be. In the
meantime, he’s going to try to lead from the training room,
which is never easy. In a way, Thibodeau is preparing his team
for two seasons --- one without Rose and one when Rose returns,
which only increases the degree of difficulty.
Cleveland Cavaliers: The Cavaliers have invited former Richmond
point guard Kevin Anderson to training camp, which will begin on
Tuesday at Cleveland Clinic Courts. The 6-foot Anderson was the
2009-10 Atlantic 10 player of the year. Undrafted in 2011, he
played last season in France, where he averaged 12.5 points, 3
rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. The addition of Anderson
       gives the Cavs 19 players.
Detroit Pistons: The Detroit Pistons announced today the
addition of guards Terrence Williams and Jonny Flynn to the
       2012-13 training camp roster.
Indiana Pacers: Just as Danny Granger mentioned during his
camp last month, players have started trickling in for workouts.
Paul George, according to people I’ve talked to, has come in
with a different mindset. Scrimmages early on are usually pretty
sloppy, but George set the tempo for things on his first day out
there. He got after it defensively, which forced everybody else
out to increase their intensity. “He came in there with the
attitude that he’s the best defender out there and he was going
to show everybody,” one person said.
Milwaukee Bucks: Veteran guard Marquis Daniels, who has
worked out with Bucks players at the team's training facility
this week, is being seriously considered for the 15th spot on
the roster. Daniels and his agent are in discussions with Bucks
management but no contract has been signed at this point,
       according to a league source.

[b]CHICAGO BULLS: Rose told reporters that once he can get to a
point where he's making cuts, he'll feel more confident in his
return to the basketball court. "Right now cutting is the
hardest thing in the world," Rose said. "I'm scared of it. Right
when I think I get that down, I'll be pretty close. Hopefully,
it won't take a whole year."
Cleveland Cavaliers: The Cavaliers added Justin Holiday to the
league-limit 20-person training camp roster Monday. Holiday, the
older brother of Philadelphia point guard Jrue, played for the
Cavaliers' summer league team. Holiday averaged 6.4 points on
41-percent shooting in 16.8 minutes per game.
Detroit Pistons: There are some indications that (Ben)
Wallace would like to return, but barring a move, the Pistons'
roster appears set. "We have 15 guaranteed contracts, but he
will always be a part of Pistons lore," coach Lawrence Frank
       said.
Indiana Pacers: Standing before a half-huddle of microphones,
dressed in both his game uniform and game face, Paul George laid
it out for the world to hear. “I want to be an All-Star, of
course,” he said. “I feel like that's in my reach. Nothing aside
from the team success, but I just feel like this is a year I can
be aggressive and make a name for myself.”
Milwaukee Bucks: The Milwaukee Bucks announced on Monday at
the team's media day that rookie guard Doron Lamb will be held
out of training camp activities due to an elbow injury. During
an interview with the media, Lamb revealed that he suffered a
torn ligament in his left elbow while trying to defend a
pick-and-roll play during team practices. When asked whether he
will need surgery, Lamb responded: "I hope it heals on its own."

[b]CHICAGO BULLS: Marco Belinelli signed a one-year contract
with the Chicago Bulls over the offseason, but he anticipates
sharing the backcourt with Derrick Rose for seasons to come.
When Belinelli heard Rose declare him the most impressive
newcomer, he was ecstatic, giving him assurance that the duo has
the potential to sustain a successful backcourt not only this
season, but for the foreseeable future. “I’m here because I want
to stay here long,” Belinelli told RealGM after Wednesday
evening’s practice. “I want to win and I want to improve my
game. And it’s amazing to hear [Rose’s compliment]. For me, to
hear something like that from the MVP of the team and one of the
best players in the league, it’s unbelievable.”
Cleveland Cavaliers: For the time being, Anderson Varejao is
with the Cavaliers. The forward/center has two years remaining
on his contract after this season. The 30-year-old probably has
three or four good years left, but the Cavs are at least two or
three years from being a very good team. That's why several
sources believe Varejao will be dealt at the trade deadline.
"I'm still here," he said at Cavs media day on Monday at
Cleveland Clinic Courts. "I can't control that. If they trade
       me, they trade me.
Detroit Pistons: Terrence Williams said his approach is to
practice and play as if he already is part of the team. "I'm
going to work hard, regardless," he said. "No matter if it's six
guarantees or it's 15 guarantees, it doesn't really matter. It
doesn't change my approach to basketball. I'm going to play
basketball and I'm going to try to compete. I've always known
how to play basketball. That's never been the point. There's
never been a point when I couldn't play basketball and I
couldn't perform and I didn't play hard. I'm always going to do
       that."
Indiana Pacers: I’d be shocked if Sam Young didn’t make the
roster. Coach Frank Vogel put Young with the starters when they
shut Danny Granger down for the final hour or so of practice to
rest his left knee. The main reason Vogel put Young with the
starters is because he wants the second unit – Augustin, Green,
Lance Stephenson, Tyler Hansbrough and Ian Mahinmi – to play
together as much as possible. Still, the Pacers like Young’s
       toughness.
Milwaukee Bucks: With his financial future virtually set,
Ersan Ilyasova could have easily got lazy and out of shape
during the offseason as some other players in his position have
done in the past. Instead, Ilyasova rededicated himself to
honing his game even more. “It doesn’t work that way for me,”
Ilyasova said when asked if he was tempted to perhaps ease up on
his work regimen after signing his huge contract. “That’s not my
nature. “The thing with this contract ... there comes
responsibility with it. People are expecting more, so that’s why
I spent the summer working with a coach to try and improve
       myself.”

[b]CHICAGO BULLS: The Chicago Bulls announced today that the
team has waived guard Vance Cooksey. Cooksey, a rookie from the
University of Pikeville, played with the Rio Grande Vipers and
Texas Legends of the NBA Development League during the 2011-12
season. He signed with Chicago as a free agent on Oct. 1, 2012.
Cleveland Cavaliers: Cleveland Cavaliers center Tristan
Thompson, Los Angeles Clippers guard Eric Bledsoe and San
Antonio Spurs guard Cory Joseph also filed paperwork to leave
CAA, according to league sources. All three are believed to be
headed to join the new agency of Rich Paul, who James partnered
with during the offseason. Paul represented all three players
while working for CAA before leaving to start his own company.
Detroit Pistons: Who is your favourite teammate ever? Amir
Johnson: I’d have to say Rasheed Wallace. He’s a funny guy, man.
A very wise man. A funny guy. That’s all I can say about ‘Sheed.
He’s the one I kind of looked up to when I was in Detroit. He
was just a good guy, kept everyone laughing.
Indiana Pacers: Roy Hibbert appears uncomfortable when asked
about the contract. Normally talkative and lighthearted, his
answers grow more serious and clipped. He even played the "it
wasn't about the money" card on Media Day, but he was convincing
in his argument. "It was the fact that in the back of my mind I
want to be with the Pacers, but at the same time I think back to
the draft class and there's a few people ahead of me and I
thought I'm better than those guys," said Hibbert, the 17th pick
in the 2008 draft. "What I was given this summer was a statement
       for my hard work.
Milwaukee Bucks: Monta Ellis, whom the Bucks acquired in a
blockbuster trade with Golden State in March, has an opt-out
clause in his contract after this season. The scuttlebutt around
the league is the high-octane scoring Ellis will exercise that
option and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Ellis,
who will be paid $11 million this season and $11 million again
next season if he decides to remain in Milwaukee, said he isn’t
overly concerned about his contract situation. “I’m just
thinking about basketball; that’s it,” Ellis said.
