Former Nets player finishes sentence for DWI, flees in SUV

Ex-NBA All Star Jayson Williams sped off in a waiting SUV Friday
morning after his release from a Rikers Island jail cell.
The 44-year-old former St. John’s center, who fatally shotgunned
a limousine driver in 2002, was freed after serving an
eight-month sentence for a January 2010 DWI charge.
He went directly to Rikers after serving 18 months in a plea
bargain deal for the killing of Costas (Gus) Christofi inside
Williams’ New Jersey $8 million mansion.
Williams — aka Inmate No. 08469159R — jumped from a city
corrections bus into a waiting white SUV driven by a pal of the
former All-Star.

Cavaliers' Irving named NBA's top rookie

LeBron who? Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving was named the runaway
winner of the NBA's Rookie of the Year award Tuesday.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 draft received 117 of
possible 120 first-place votes from a nationwide panel of 120
writers and broadcasters. He finished with 592 points, easily
beating the Minnesota Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio (170) and the
Denver Nuggets' Kenneth Faried (129).
Faried, San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard and New York's Iman Shumpert
received the other first-place votes.
The 20-year-old is the second Cleveland player to win the award.
The other, James, recently won his third MVP award.
Irving led the Cavaliers in both scoring (18.5 points per game)
and assists (5.4). His scoring average was tops among rookies,
as were his 87.2 free-throw percentage and his 17.7 efficiency
rating, while his assists average was second only to Rubio
(8.2). Cleveland finished fifth in the Midwest Division with a
record of 21-45.
The talented rookie turned pro after playing 11 games at Duke.
In Cleveland, he gave hope to a fan base that spent the past two
seasons trying to move past James' departure as a free agent.

If the Cavs can luck out in the draft lottery, they will have
the beginnings of a very good team. Pair Anthony Davis with
Irving and that's a heck of a core to build around.

I think Davis will be a fine player, though I think his
development will be affected by the team situation he's drafted
into.
If he goes to a team like the Bobcats where he's expected to be
the "savior," then it may be tough on him. On the other hand, if
he goes to a team like the Cavs with an established star like
Irving, he will become another piece of the puzzle and will have
room to grow more gradually. Just my .02 worth...

Report: Golden State Warriors to announce plans to move to San
Francisco from Oakland

The Golden State Warriors could be headed back across the San
Francisco Bay in five years.
The San Jose Mercury News reported on Sunday that the Warriors
could relocate from Oracle Arena in Oakland to a new stadium in
San Francisco by 2017.
Sources: Warriors have finalized plans to move to San
Francisco. Announcement could come as early as Tuesday. Pier
30/32 arena with private money. New arena would be
state-of-the-art multi-use (basketball, concerts) facility,
making the most of Bay-front location.
Move is planned for 2017, presuming no red-tape and funding
problems. Access remains a major concern. Only 1000 parking
places in plan.
Joe Lacob and Peter Guber purchased the Warriors in 2010 from
former owner Chris Cohan. Their plan has been to move the
Warriors across the bay to San Francisco for some time.
"The potential for building an arena near AT&T Park is very
exciting," Lacob told the San Francisco Chronicle in December
2011. "The Giants have done some remarkable things over there.
It's a great ballpark that revitalized an entire part of the
city."
Pier 30 and 32 are just north of AT&T Park.
The Warriors have bounced around since relocating from
Philadelphia to California in 1962. They have played home games
in Oakland, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose and Daly City
over the past five decades.
The franchise changed its name from the "San Francisco Warriors"
to the "Golden State Warriors" in 1971 to coincide with a move
to Oakland.

Bulls shut out in All-NBA voting

Despite their league-best regular-season record, the Chicago
Bulls landed no players on the three All-NBA teams released
Thursday.
Although he missed 27 games, Bulls guard Derrick Rose received
the third-most points of those who didn't qualify with 44
points. That still lagged far behind the third-team guards'
totals of 235 and 142 points.
League MVP LeBron James led the first team, which also featured
Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant.
Russell Westbrook, Tony Parker, Andrew Bynum, Kevin Love and
Blake Griffin landed on the second team, while Rajon Rondo,
Dwyane Wade, Tyson Chandler, Dirk Nowitzki and Carmelo Anthony
made up the third team.
Besides Rose, Luol Deng received five points and Joakim Noah
three for the Bulls.
James received 118 of 120 first-team votes in balloting from
writers and broadcasters. Players received five points for a
first-place vote, three for a second- and one for a third-place
vote.
No Bulls player received a first-team vote.
