You know after seeing those uni's in yesterday's All-Star game I
think the NBA should let the home team wear white and the other
side wear their road unis. I didn't like them at all yesterday.

Sacramento Kings reach arena deal that may kill Anaheim's hopes

The Sacramento Kings' owners have struck a deal with the city
and the NBA to pursue financing for a new downtown arena near
the Sacramento rail yards that could open as soon as fall 2015,
officials announced Monday in Orlando, Fla., following a weekend
of meetings.
"It's a new day in Sacramento, a new day for this franchise and
the NBA," said Jeremiah Jackson, project manager of the Think
Big task force assigned by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson to
help keep the Kings in California's capital even as Anaheim and
Seattle were positioning themselves as possible new homes for
the franchise.
But Monday's development appears to be taking such a move off
the table.
Jackson said Kings owners Joe, Gavin and George Maloof will
contribute $75 million in "upfront" money to help pay for the
estimated $387-million new arena. Staples Center operator AEG
will also "provide more than we thought they'd do," said
Jackson, a figure that last week was placed at $53 million by
insiders.
Sacramento City Council members will be briefed on the key deal
points Monday, Jackson said, and the full council will publicly
"document everything" at Tuesday's planned meeting in advance of
a March 6 meeting to "approve the terms of the deal."
The city has offered to provide $200 million through a parking
deal.
"The team has delivered on its end, and now the city will have
to deliver on its end, and everyone figures they will approve
this public-private partnership," Jackson said.
Jackson said he "absolutely" believes Monday's development
ensures the Kings will remain in Sacramento.
Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait saluted the Kings and Sacramento for
reaching a deal.
“Congratulations to the Maloof family, Mayor Kevin Johnson and
the city of Sacramento, and the Sacramento Kings organization
and fans," Tait said in a statement. "As a sports fan, I know
the value a professional sports team adds to a region. Anaheim
remains NBA-ready and I look forward to the day we will have our
own NBA team, but today I offer my best wishes to Sacramento.
Well done.”
The Kings were poised to become the Anaheim Royals last year
until NBA Commissioner David Stern urged the Maloofs to wait for
specifics of a stronger financing deal for a new arena in
Sacramento.
Stern, his deputy Adam Silver and attorneys sat in meetings with
the Maloofs and Kevin Johnson through All-Star weekend in
Orlando.
Jackson said a "big part" of the deal was establishing what the
Maloofs -- saddled by financial trouble with their Palms Casino
and Resort in Las Vegas -- could contribute toward the arena
construction. George Maloof has been stoic about the team's
future, given that Anaheim was offering a shiny arena that would
be upgraded at no ownership expense, with a loan being promised
by arena operator and Ducks owner Henry Samueli.
"Everyone knew there was a gap [in financing]. The Maloofs
stepped up beyond our wildest imagination," said Jackson, adding
that Gavin Maloof broke down in tears over his happiness at
keeping the team in Sacramento.
George Maloof told the Sacramento Bee on Monday that his family
would put in "close to $75 million upfront, probably another $75
million over the term of the agreement."
"We got something worked out, tentative. We're all very excited
about it," he said. "We were skeptical about whether or not
something could happen. ... We can finance that. ... We kind of
bridged the gap of where we needed to be."
George Maloof told the Bee that the $75 million in future
payments will partially be generated by extra ticket charges.
Mayor Johnson released a statement about the talks Monday:
"Today is a new day for Sacramento and a defining moment for our
community. We came to Orlando needing to convert both ends of a
one-and-one free throw. Over the weekend, the city hit the front
end of the free throw by making clear it had delivered on its
promises and, today, the Maloof family hit the second free throw
by stepping up and increasing their contribution. The deal
represents a true partnership with the Maloof family, the NBA,
AEG, the city and the entire region that will generate more than
4,000 jobs and will transform our city.
"It represents a new model for how arenas can be developed that
will serve as economic engines for a community while protecting
the taxpayers and making sure the economics work for the team.
None of this would be possible without support across the board
-- from the council to city staff to the entire community -- and
that's what we've got in Sacramento. I am as proud as I have
ever been to be from Sacramento."

The Andrew Bogut era in Milwaukee is over.
The Milwaukee Bucks have traded Bogut and forward Stephen
Jackson to the Golden State Warriors for Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh
and Kwame Brown, sources confirmed to ESPN.com.
Bogut was drafted first overall by Milwaukee in the 2005 draft
and has averaged 12.7 points and 9.3 rebounds over his
seven-year career.
In return the Bucks welcome the instant offense that Ellis
provides to pair with star point guard Brandon Jennings.
Ellis, a seven-year veteran, has career averages of 19.6 points
and 4.4 assists and is already used to sharing the backcourt
with a dynamic player, having worked alongside Stephen Curry
since the 2009 season.
The Warriors are also bringing back a fan favorite in landing
Jackson. The volatile small forward was a key player on the
Golden State squad that knocked out the top-seeded Dallas
Mavericks in the first round of the 2007 playoffs.
In addition to Ellis the Bucks get Udoh (5.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg in 38
games this season) and journeyman center Brown (6.3, 6.4 in nine
games).

D'Antoni out as Knicks coach

Mike D’Antoni has resigned as coach of the New York Knicks,
league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
D’Antoni and Knicks owner James Dolan agreed on Wednesday to end
his four-season run as Knicks coach, a source said. “It was a
mutual decision to no longer coach the Knicks … conflicting
visions of the club’s future,” the source said.
D’Antoni had clashed with Carmelo Anthony after the trade
brought the All-Star forward to the Knicks a year ago, and he
could never get Anthony to buy into his system.
The Knicks have lost six consecutive games to nearly drop out of
the Eastern Conference playoff race.
Assistant Mike Woodson, who formerly coached the Atlanta Hawks,
will take over as the interim coach.
The Knicks enjoyed a brief revival this season after D’Antoni
moved Jeremy Lin into the rotation and made him the starting
point guard. The Knicks won seven consecutive games from Feb.
4-15, a stretch that almost entirely coincided with Anthony’s
absence from the lineup because of a groin injury.
The Knicks have gone just 2-8 since Anthony’s return, losing any
of the momentum they gained while he was sidelined. While fans
at Madison Square Garden have taken to recently booing Anthony,
he told reporters Wednesday he doesn’t want to be traded.
“Dolan is blaming the coach,” said a source with knowledge of
the Knicks’ locker-room dynamics. “Tyson [Chandler], Baron
[Davis], A’mare [Stoudemire] – guys who came to play for Mike –
or that system – are pissed. Lin isn’t happy either.”

The Los Angeles Lakers traded longtime point guard Derek Fisher
after acquiring Ramon Sessions earlier in the day, according to
sources.
Fisher, who has spent 13 of his 16 NBA seasons with the Lakers,
was dealt to the Houston Rockets for Jordan Hill, sources told
ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher. The Lakers also will send the
Rockets a first-round pick, previously acquired from Dallas, in
this year's draft.
The Lakers picked up Sessions from the Cleveland Cavaliers as
part of a multi-player deal that will bring the Cavs the Lakers'
2012 first-round pick.
The Cavs also will send young wing player Christian Eyenga to
the Lakers and veteran forwards Luke Walton and Jason Kapono
will be going to the Cavs. The Lakers will keep their draft pick
this year if they miss the playoffs. As part of the deal, the
Cavs also will have the right to swap Miami's 2013 first-round
pick, which they own, for the Lakers' first-round selection.
Fisher has been part of five NBA titles with the Lakers. He is
averaging 5.9 points and 3.3 assists per game this season, and
has averaged 8.7 points and 3.1 assists per game in his career.
Sessions is averaging 10.5 points and 5.2 assists for the Cavs
and fills a need for the Lakers, who have been in the market for
a true point guard. Sessions is earning $4.2 million this season
and is scheduled to earn $4.5 million next season, his option.
Walton, who has battled injuries over the past several years,
has one year and $6.1 million left on his contract -- he's
played in just nine games this year. Eyenga has played in just
six games and has spent time in the D-League.
Kapono, who played his rookie year with the Cavs in 2003-04, has
played in 27 games and is averaging two points. His contract is
up at the end of the season.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Stan Van Gundy said he knows his franchise
player, Dwight Howard, has asked that he be fired as coach of
the Orlando Magic, and get this: Van Gundy claimed his sources
are better than any reporter's.
"I was told it was true by people in our management," Van Gundy
said Thursday, just hours before the Magic hosted the New York
Knicks. "So right from the top."
In what had to be one of the most bizarre game-day scenes in NBA
history, Van Gundy confirmed a WKMG-TV report that Howard is
pushing for his ouster, and did so right before the center
walked through a circle of news media members and embraced his
coach.
"They haven't told me anything," Van Gundy said of Orlando
management, "and they don't need to. I'm the coach right now,
and I'm the coach until they decide I'm not the coach. It's
12:02 right now. If they want to fire me at 12:05, I'll go home
and find something to do. I'll have a good day."
Clearly unaware of the stunning claim Van Gundy had made, Howard
suddenly appeared at his side and put his right arm around the
coach.
"Stan, we're not worried about that, right?" Howard asked.

Cuban: Make players stay 3 years in NCAA

DALLAS -- NBA commissioner David Stern and Dallas Mavericks
owner Mark Cuban, a pair of basketball power brokers who have
differed on plenty of topics over the years, agree that they'd
like to get rid of the one-and-done trend with draft prospects.
The rules currently require an American player to be at least 19
years old and a year out of high school before he can declare
for the NBA draft, which is why the lottery is littered with
phenoms coming off their college freshman seasons each year.
Stern said Tuesday that he'd like to add a year to the rule.
Cuban wants to take it a step further, requiring players to wait
three years after their high school class graduates to become
draft-eligible.
"I just think there's every good reason to do it, which is
obviously why we didn't do it," Cuban said sarcastically, adding
that Kentucky fans were the only people who like the
one-and-done concept.

Arena deal crumbles, Sacramento's NBA future shaky

NEW YORK (AP) The Kings' future in Sacramento is uncertain
again.
A tentative deal for a new arena has fallen apart, leaving open
the possibility the team's owners could again try to move from
California's capital.
''Is the deal dead? As we know it, absolutely,'' Sacramento
Mayor Kevin Johnson said Friday.
The Maloof family has balked at terms of the agreement reached
last month, and though they say they want to remain in
Sacramento, Johnson isn't so sure after meeting with them Friday
and hearing their list of concerns he said hadn't previously
been disclosed.
''It just feels like they were coming up with reasons of why not
to do the deal,'' Johnson said.
So a year after Johnson came to New York to begin his fight to
save the team, his city is in jeopardy of losing it all over
again.
Admitting he was angry and questioning the Maloofs'
trustworthiness, Johnson praised his city's efforts but said he
doesn't know what will happen now.
''They are now saying they don't want to do the deal, which
essentially means they don't want to be in Sacramento, and
that's very, very disappointing,'' he said.
The Kings say otherwise.
