Agent: Rajon Rondo Ready to Lead Celtics
Rajon Rondo has no intention of giving new Celtics coach Brad
Stevens any issues when the two begin working together and is
becoming more excited about the post Big Three Era, according to
       Rondo’s agent, Bill Duffy.
Duffy said Rondo is excited about his leadership role, but a bit
anxious about the responsibility. “When you look at it from a
myopic standpoint, he’s probably spoiled,” Duffy said. “It’s
very rare throughout your entire career to have [the playoffs]
locked. They’ve been very prominent and now it’s a rebuilding
stage, and you’ve got to understand what they’re doing but
       you’re the centerpiece of it.”

Report: Cavs Offer Bynum Two-Year Deal
The Cleveland Cavaliers are pushing for free-agent center Andrew
       Bynum to accept a two-year, $24 million-plus, incentive-based
contract offer, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Monday
       night.
The Cavaliers met with Bynum in Cleveland on Monday, but could
fast lose patience with waiting on the two-time NBA champion
center to make a decision on accepting the offer, which includes
a team option in the second year of the deal, sources said.

Clippers Hire Gentry as Associate Head Coach
The Los Angeles Clippers officially named Alvin Gentry as their
       associate head coach on Monday.
The Clippers also named Armond Hill, Kevin Eastman and Tyronn
Lue as assistants on new head coach Doc Rivers’ staff.
It is a homecoming of sorts for Gentry, who returns to Los
Angeles for his third stint with the Clippers after previously
serving as both head coach (2000-2003) and assistant coach
(1990-1991). Gentry most recently served as the head coach of
the Phoenix Suns for five seasons before mutually parting ways
       with the team in January.

Sources: Knicks Interested in Raja Bell
Free agent guard Raja Bell worked out for the Knicks in New York
on Monday and stood out to the point where he could receive
consideration for a roster spot, a league source told RealGM.
The Knicks have been intrigued by the outside shooting and
defensive versatility that Bell is known for, and they invited
him into their facility on Monday. In the workouts, Bell shot
well and outplayed New York’s incoming rookies in one on one
drills, a source said, leaving the Knicks surprised given Bell
sat out the entire 2012-13 season.
Bell, 36, always has been known as a hard worker and a positive
locker room presence, but he played sparingly two seasons ago
and had a falling out with the Utah Jazz. It led to him being
away from the team, despite feeling healthy.

The Golden State Warriors have agreed to terms on a new contract
with Marreese Speights, according to sources with knowledge of

multiyear deal with the free-agent center to sign him away from
Cleveland. Although the financial specifics were not known,
sources say Speights received a two-year deal with a team option

NBA Approves Bobcats Name Change to Hornets
       June 18, 2013
Earlier today, the NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved
Bobcats Sports & Entertainment’s application to change the
team’s name to the Charlotte Hornets, effective at the start of
the 2014-15 NBA season. The Hornets was the name of the original
Charlotte NBA franchise that debuted during the 1988-89
       campaign.
“We’re thrilled to bring back the Hornets to Charlotte and the
Carolinas,” said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment Chairman Michael
Jordan. “The passion and enthusiasm around this name change by
fans in this market has been unmatched. They overwhelmingly told
us what they wanted, we listened and we couldn’t be happier with
the Board of Governors’ approval of the name change. With the
young team we are developing on the court, the direction of our
business and the return of the Hornets name, we are extremely
excited about our future. The Buzz is Back!”
As a thank you to the New Orleans Pelicans (formerly the New
Orleans Hornets) organization for their assistance in this
process, the Bobcats will make a donation to Pelicans Gulf Coast
       Preservation Fund.
“I want to personally thank the New Orleans Pelicans and their
owner Tom Benson for helping to make this a smooth transition
and because of that, we wanted to make a donation to the
Pelicans Gulf Coast Preservation Fund as a show of our
appreciation,” said Bobcats Sports & Entertainment President &
COO Fred Whitfield. “From our earliest discussions, it was clear
both organizations wanted to do what was best for their fan
bases and the NBA. We look forward to working with the Pelicans
throughout this process as we finalize specifics of the
       transition.”
With the approval of the Hornets name, the next steps in the
transition to the new name will be developing the team’s NBA
brand identity, including color schemes, logos and uniform
designs. No timeline has been established for when these
       elements will be unveiled.
Thousands of fans tonight viewed the official announcement live
in-person at the team’s Buzz City Celebration at Alive After
Five at Charlotte’s EpiCentre. Charlotte Hornets legends Muggsy
Bogues, Rex Chapman, Dell Curry, Kendall Gill and Kelly Tripucka
       were all in attendance.

LeBron James Running for NBPA Presidency?
LeBron James is seriously considering running for president of
the National Basketball Players Association, multiple sources
       told ESPN.
James is giving a run “some very heavy thought,” one source
       said.
The biggest consideration for James will be the time commitment
being the union president would require. James has limited time
to give because of sponsorship and charity commitments in
addition to playing. Deep playoff runs with the Miami Heat the
past three seasons have also been taxing.
“It’s a very important position for where things are going,” a
       source close to James said.

Sixers Begin Looking for Free Agents
A month into the NBA’s free-agency period, the 76ers say they
will start making moves. They won’t say which players they are
targeting. “We have needs all around,” Sixers general manager
       Sam Hinkie said.
“We are going to look for guys who can be a part of our future
and have a chance, some guys who can grow with our team.”
Among the free agents who could interest the Sixers are small
forwards Ronnie Brewer and Luke Babbit, shooting guard Xavier
       Henry, and center Cole Aldrich.

Source: Knicks Passing on Delonte West
The desperate-for-a-point-guard Knicks have until Aug. 15 to
make a move on intriguing Euroleague point guard Bobby Brown,
       and he hopes they do.
An NBA source said the Knicks no longer have embattled Delonte
West on their wish list despite prior inquiries.

Devin Harris Signs Minimum Deal with Mavs
Guard Devin Harris signed a contract Wednesday with the Dallas
Mavericks that was significantly smaller than the deal the sides
       originally agreed to this summer.
Harris, 30, signed a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum of
$1.3 million. Earlier this month, the sides mutually agreed to
pull a three-year, $9 million offer off the table when Harris’
pre-signing physical screening revealed that he had a dislocated
       toe that required surgery.
The Mavs could offer Harris no more than the minimum salary
after using the rest of their salary-cap space to sign guard
Monta Ellis and center Samuel Dalembert.
