Will NBA officials ever consistently give Derrick Rose the
benefit of the doubt on foul calls?
The league's reigning MVP was fined $25,000 for criticizing
officials after Monday's home loss to the Magic.
Uncharacteristically, Rose told reporters: "I got to be the only
superstar in the league going through what I'm going through
right now."
Point guards, even those of the superstar variety, often seem to
have a more difficult time gaining officials' respect.
"I always tried to let the officials know that what they call a
touch or a bump from a guy who weighs 100 pounds more than you …
and is probably five or six inches taller than you … it is not a
bump to you," Isiah Thomas said this week with his familiar
cackle. "I just think (Rose) has to keep making his case."

That guy is the kiss of death. Now Rose will NEVER get a call.
:)
Now what makes the NBA as a whole a bad product is officiating!
I watched the Lakers/Grizzlies game last Tuesday night and the
Lakers got the benefit of EVERY CALL by the refs! I don't
usually watch a Laker game when it comes on television but this
time I did and won't watch them again. That's David Stern's
team period.

Derrick Rose, the reigning NBA MVP, lives on the eighty-fourth
floor of the Trump building in Chicago, one of the tallest
buildings in the country, right up near the roof, with
wall-length windows overlooking the city he rules, the only city
he has ever known. The view is disorienting and
all-encompassing, sort of like he's living on an observation
deck of the Willis Tower, which happens to be right over there,
one of the only points above us in the mess of verticals
downtown.
Rose also has a home in Northbrook, by the Bulls' training
complex, but he says he has that place mostly for convenience,
so he doesn't have to drive back into the city after practice.
Someday he'd like to have a house, "my real house," where he'll
"have kids and just live in my spot." But he can't do that now,
not even close. This condo, the one he just moved into about a
month ago—it is almost entirely unfurnished; two of his bedrooms
have no sheets on the beds and are filled with stacks of
unopened boxes—this is his escape for now. Eighty-four stories
up in the sky, secured away.
"I like living here," he says. "They just try to make you
comfortable. The people here, they are mostly from out of town;
they don't know who I am. That's why I picked this place." (It's
easy to understand why one would enjoy working in this building,
too. When Rose orders two bottled waters for us during our chat,
he hands the bellhop two $50 bills.) Presidents talk about how
the White House begins to feel like a prison. Rose speaks the
same way about the town that adores him. "It gets on my nerves
that I just can't go out," he says. "It's just boundaries now.
People are like, 'You can't go here, you can't go there, you got
to let that person know where you're going.' It's just weird.
I'm never alone. Ever."

Bulls Lose Rose to Season-Ending Injury

It was one of the rare instances when the final score is the
least important part of a playoff game.
With 1:22 left, Saturday's NBA playoff opener was heading toward
its expected conclusion, Chicago leading Philadelphia by 12,
when Derrick Rose drove into the lane, jumped to a stop and
leaped in pain. He came down clutching his left knee and
crumpled to the floor.
As an unsettling silence fell over the United Center crowd, Rose
was helped up and shuffled off to the locker room. The Bulls
finished off a 103-91 victory, and within a few hours of the
final horn, word came down that Rose had torn the anterior
cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. He will miss the rest
of the playoffs and several months beyond that.

United Center plans retail space

Not far from the Michael Jordan statue, the United Center's
owners hope a $75 million to $85 million retail development soon
will take flight.
Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf is leading a venture that
plans to build 260,000 square feet of restaurants, bars, a team
store and event space in the sprawling parking lot east of the
arena, according to documents obtained by Crain's. Chicago
Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz would be part of the venture, which
could include team offices, parking, a terrace and a green roof.
The new retail structure on the H Lot would be connected to the
east side of the Madhouse on Madison with an atrium-like
entrance similar to the one at Wisconsin's Lambeau Field, home
of the NFL's Green Bay Packers.
The privately funded development would be another step in the
West Side neighborhood's evolution from a gritty area where
people venture only for Bulls and Blackhawks games to one where
more people want to live and have fun.
“We live by a sea of parking lots,” Ald. Walter Burnett Jr.,
27th, says. “People who live in the neighborhood would rather
have a structure and businesses because it would enhance the
whole community.”

What a shame that happened to Rose today. Man can this team
catch a break! Hope they can find a way to win this thing
still.
And I love this idea about adding on to the UC. I think it's
awesome!!!

If you can find any perspective out of that game, its that the
Bulls remaining big three were non-factors in the 2nd half to
counter the Sixers run. If any of the three show up big, the
game would have been much closer. I think the Bulls were on a
multiple-day emotional roller coaster and simply wore out in the
second half.
Doug Collins made adjustments for this game; now its time for
Thibs to show he can make adjustments too. Only need to win one
in Philly to win the series.
I agree about the UC addition - I look forward to seeing it in
person once it opens.
