After February 24, even people who had some political illusions
about Russia's progressive role became convinced enemies of
Moscow. We can say that this common tragedy has united people.
People from the western part of Ukraine are ready to help the
refugees from the east and are showing their support with
concrete actions. To be sure, some people have pursued an
exclusionary and extremist agenda, claiming that
       Russian-speakers are "Putin's agents.
We know that Russian culture will be associated with the culture

       the oppressors for a long
time (until Putin's regime is overthrown by the Russians
themselves). But we are ready to oppose any kind of linguistic
or cultural discrimination and we hope that solidarity will
prevail. We have also seen that ordinary people in the
self-proclaimed Donbas republics are tired of Moscow using them
in the war against the Ukrainians. Of course, most of them
consider Russian their native language, but they also do not
want to give up their lives. Even in the midst of this horrible
history, the potential for reintegration remains.

As things stand, some believe that the best possible outcome is
for Ukraine to negotiate and give up its ambitions to join the
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). How would you respond
to that argument? And, in more general terms, how does the
Social Movement view the issue of NATO and its role in this war?
First of all, we think that any intention to join NATO cannot
justify the Russian invasion. This is an issue that is in the
field of internal debate and national sovereignty.
