Chess Fonts for MS Word

Is there a way to use a chess font in MS Word?
Are there any chess fonts that have the Archbishop and
Chancellor pieces?

Chess fonts are just like any other font. When they are
installed in the Windows font folder, they should automatically
appear in the font-choice menu of all applications. If they are
in the Windows-compatible }treu-type font" (.ttf) format, that
is. I think all chess fonts on enpassant.dk are int TTF format.
The mapping of ascii characters to symbols is non-standardized,
however.
IIRC only a single font on enpassant.dk contains 'fairy pieces'.
(I forgot which.) But this cntains just rotated versions of the
orthodox symbols, as is stadard in fairy poblems.
George Tsavdiris once created a TTF for a font called WinBoardF.
(WinBoard also can use chess fonts for redering pieces.) This
does contain dedicated symbols for a number of fairy pieces,
including a (Gothic style) Archbishop and Chancellor. The
download link (

no longer
seems to be functioning, though. I am not sure if I still have
it somewhere.

So is George still over there in Greece? He and I had
many-a-good-battle in the formative years of Gothic Chess,
especially on the BK website and GothicChessLive.com.

I never knew where he was. But his last posting on TalkChess was
Dec 14, 2017. So I suppose he is 'alive and kicking'.

Usually I don't use fonts. I use graphics, the most extensive
collection of variant graphics is Alfaerie Omega. Here's a link
to my fork.
