Omega Chess Advanced - how did it come to be?

I'm sure most of you on this forum know of or have played omega
chess.
One thing that's baffled me for years is - how did the
'advanced' rules come about? Were they changes made by MacDonald
himself? Are they supposed to be the 'definitive' rules? Were
there ever any sets made?
All I know of the rules is from the Wikipedia article and a
blogspot page that's been stagnant for a while.

I always though this was because succesful games usually try to
market some extension set (in this case the Fool piece).
