3-Piece Musketeer Chess Endgame Tablebases Solved
By: GothicChessInventor Date: January 12, 2018, 7:34 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I solved the complete set for every position involving King +
Piece vs. Piece for the game of Musketeer Chess.
This includes:
KNIGHT, BISHOP, ROOK, QUEEN, HAWK, UNICORN, LEOPARD, ELEPHANT,
CANNON, FORTRESS, SPIDER, ARCHBISHOP, CHANCELLOR and DRAGON.
I need volunteers to "sign up" to test playing against the
tablebase to make sure they are correct. There is no need to
test the Knight, Bishop, and Unicorn tablebases. The Unicorn has
only mate-in-1 positions that cannot be forced. Other than those
exceptions, those 3 databases contain all draws.
I need one volunteer for each piece type, and each side to move.
If playing the winning side, the program will announce the
winning distance. If you win faster, the tablebases are
incorrect. If the program defends longer, you made a non-optimal
move.
If playing the losing side, if you lose in more moves than the
program predicted, that means the tablesbases are incorrect. If
the program beats you faster, you made a non-optimal move.
I'll give $100 to the person with the best score, graded against
the tablebases, if the tablebases indeed are correct.
I will seek volunteers until they are correct. I am pretty sure
they are, but you never know.

I'll post images of the longest wins and longest losses. I am in
the process of data mining for them.

So the post above shows the results from data mining my
databases. You have to look hard for the lower-case "k" to see
where the Black King is.
The Unicorn results showed "Mate in 1" positions during the
solve. But the results show no wins for white to move. That can
mean I have a counter that got blown out somewhere in my
reporting code, or the white to move and mate in 1 needed to be
constructed, and black cannot be forced into the position
(possibly because the side had to have been in check when it was
white to move). I will investigate.

Thanks Asher. Here is the first position to test:
[attachimg=1]
White to move and win in 55-ply. This is a checkmate in 28
moves.
If you win in less than 28 moves, we know the tablebases have an
error in them.
If you take longer than 28 moves, we know you made a non-optimal
move and the computer was able to defend longer.
Your move.

I'm willing to volunteer. I've been doing some writing for
musketeer chess, and I think getting my hands dirty with some of
these EGTBs (in particular LE+K vs. K FO+K vs. K) is just what I
need.

Well I only have the 3-piece set solved so far. I wanted to
verify they are working before trying the 4-piece set or
generating the pawn Tablebase.
So pick a side for the position above, white or black. If white,
post your move, I'll reply with mine. If you want a diagram
posted after my reply, say so each time.
