How Many Years have You Been Foruming?

I started joining forums in 2007 and opened my first ever forum
in between 2008-2009 so I've been doing it for 18 years at most.

The first forum I joined was back in 2006, so I've been using
them for almost 20 years now! I opened up my first forum in
2009, and I had no clue what I was doing lol.

Ha ha you and me both. 18 years later and I still don't know
what I'm doing half of the time ;D

I would say like 10 years ago which is when I also started my
own forum. Took a hiatus after several years but I just started
getting back into it early last year.

Since the mid to late 90s.
Back when I first started messing with forums, everything was on
dialup, and you have to basically edit a lot of code to add a
plugin. I remember using phpBB version 1.
I remember when ProBoards first got launched, too.
I'm old school and old LOL

First version of phpbb I ever used was 3.0 something

Bro that is awesome lol. I can't imagine how phpBB 1 was like! I
got around to trying out phpBB 2 as an admin not too long ago
since I was moving a forum that was hosted on Jcink over to SMF
and needed to move to phpBB2 in order to get to the latest
version of SMF lol.

phpBB 1 was really basic. I used it mainly right before v2 came
out.
Version 2 was awesome but any plugins you added had to be
manually added. There wasn't any good way to "automate" it like
it is today. You edited code on a bunch of files and it took
hours. I don't miss that. That was also on dialup LOL

I got on Postloop, the popular forum posting service (now
out-of-business). It exposed to me to a lot of forums and also
I happened to run into Forum Promotion around then, maybe from a
search engine or maybe they were on Postloop.
And all of this was around 2014 maybe.

Oh I completely forgot about PostLoop. That was also around when
I started with forums. One of my earliest resources for getting
my forum out there.
