Why MyBB is Unworkable These Days

The alerts system has major problems installing and the alerts
system is very vital to the software.
However, though, besides that, it appears MyBB has more
extensions than phpBB, oddly enough.

The biggest problem I have with MyBB is that the default theme
isn't responsive. To be fair, most forums have unique themes so
most probably don't even use the default one but having the
ability to browse your forum on a mobile device out of the box
should be necessary in 2025.

They are so slow at releasing new updates. They were all talk
about the exciting updates that were supposedly going to happen.

This is my biggest gripe.
You have to use a third-party theme just to make it mobile
responsive.
That's sad.

It could be I haven't tried hard enough to fix MyAlerts. I
assume it's something where the extension can't work with the
SQL version.

I think the development team has significantly diminished over
there. I doubt anything crazy is coming in the future. I'm
waiting for them to announce pulling the plug to be honest.

I'd like to revitalize MyBB myself with a custom line of
extensions that work, but my coding skills are beginner and I
don't have the cash to pay a coder.

Can one fork MyBB?
I'm not sure what their license is. That determines if it can be
forked or not.

What is a fork? I saw that term on the SMF support site.
But I think there is an open license at MyBB, like the other
others.

A fork is when someone remakes their own version of a forum.
Elkarte and Wedge are good examples for SMF.
