What are forums missing?

What would make forums better?
What features are missing "out of the box" that would make them
better for everyone, admin and members?

Gamification tools seem to be missing out of the box for lots of
software. Thankfully it's good to see that this forum comes with
a good number of modifications you would have to manually
install on SMF. Also another feature, being able to log in using
your social media account. I think a good number of forum
software has this out of the box, but not all of them!

I think social media login would be handy if you don't remember
your actual login details. I'd probably use it as backup until
things got straightened up with my regular account

I agree with this. I think gamification features should be out
of the box. Most modern community platforms like Circle and
Mighty Networks have them as standard features. I think at least
the paid software should be doing these features by default.

It's when you basically add "gaming" features to your forum to
enhance engagement and visits.
Credit systems, leaderboards, "can you help these members?",
forum goals, profile completion scales, etc. These are all forms
of gamification on forums.
It gives members something to do each visit to enhance their
forum experienc,e and if there is a leaderboard, to enhance
their position and compete somewhat.

PhpBB needs an avatar resizer/uploader, a better mentions tool,
and thing that one click updates the software.
But aside from that, extensions or extensions in development got
what you need.

I miss when forums would have very fun arcade systems. I
remember Forum Promotion having one for staff and maybe premium
members. That was when they were on phpBB.

I agree with the resizing. It's a pain trying to upload an
avatar, get a not enough pixels message and then try find a way
to resize it yourself, although I think smf is like that too,
unfortunately. Not sure there

I loved the flash arcade systems that you could install.
I had one on my SMF forums.
They were a lot of fun!
