What’s the best way to manage forum conflicts and disputes?

No matter how peaceful your forum is, one day two members will
clash. As the admin, if you jump in too fast, it can disrupt the
peace of the community. What I try to do is hear both sides
separately first, avoid insults, and remind them of community
rules calmly. Sometimes all they need is space to cool down,
other times you must issue warnings.

Be a police detective about it.
Get the story from both sides and ask the same questions (in
different formats) to see if the story changes.
Ask each side what they want to happen as a result.
Determine who is at fault and take the appropriate action.
Like in police detection, this needs to happen within 24 to 48
hours.
