       Political Themes in Music

I agree with Paul Simon's statement up to a point.

       > Admittedly, Simon has never been the biggest fan of Lennon,
and in 1972, he told Rolling Stone about why he found ‘Power For
The People’ distasteful. He commented” “It’s a poor record, a
condescending record. Like all of these cliché phrases, they’re
dangerous. What does that mean — power to the people? And who is
he saying it to? Is he saying it to people who have any idea
       what it means?”.

How do you all feel about politics in music? I think it can be
cliche as Simon was quoted saying. However, though, unlike
Simon, I liked Lennon's post-Beatle stuff, but it can be "kind
       of preachy" LOL.

I try to avoid political stuff.
Most is very one-sided, biased, and more propaganda than
       accuracy.

I can separate the music from the politics. For instance, the
activism of Ted Nugent, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, James
Taylor, Eminem, Taylor Swift etc. doesn't affect my opinion of
       the music.

Eminem was the first artist I thought of when reading this post.
Anyone else remember his song "White America"?

No, but I know Eminem is left-wing.

If the song is speaking against social injustice and not mainly
about a political party, then I am very okay with it. I am
always concerned with how some songs focus on just political
       parties which ain't good.

I'm not posting a song with those kinds of lyrics here, but
check it out on YouTube when you get a spare chance. I think
he's kinda a dork myself, but check out the song and you'll see
why. I used to love this song in middle school, but, well, even
though I'm not huge on politics myself, let's just say the
lyrics give you a kind "what on earth?!" Feeling and it's
definitely not a song I'd listen to very much these days
