In a Job: Speed vs Quality

In my job dishwashing a big problem is getting things done fast,
but you have to do things also quality. Now some at my job want
to cram dishes on a tray and run them thru. But, honestly, it
doesn't clean them well enough and then you would get
complaints, like I heard the other day. And I know for a fact
that with some people dishes go thru crammed and it's not
getting all stuff off of them.

I'm expected to do both, but my job requires skills.
I'm a surveillance investigator in the casino industry. We
investigate criminal acts as well as internal violations based
on casino legislation that the state creates. We work alongside
with casino law enforcement. They use our investigations and
evidence to make arrests, prosecute offenders, and cite based on
violations.
We have to be fast, and the quality of the evidence and
investigation has to be the best.
It's definitely a profession.

So, with surveillance footage, do you edit things so it's easier
to see what's happening in a video? I'm sure that's gotten much
easier now that video cassette tapes are obsolete

Of course, it's gotta be easier than in the 70s, the setting of
the movie Casino.

It's easier today than it was 10 years ago.
10 years ago, everything was VHS. Now it's all digital.

I know some places need speed over quality, but I think always
slowly down for quality is worth it.

If I can slow down, I will, but sometimes you only have so long
before an investigation will go cold.

Quality first. People rush work and later spend two days fixing
mistakes. I’d rather take extra minutes and deliver something
solid. But to be honest, sometimes clients can push you to work
faster than you can go and that could result in a low quality
job.

Well, you always need some of both :P . Which one you need to
prioritise depends on the situation - and how many resources you
have to throw at the problem.
But I think that we need deadlines in order to get anything
done, and the way to go is "the best quality that will get the
job done before the deadline".
