My thots in Joel 1 , 2 and 3

Joel son of Pethuel ... however, scholars are not in agreement
about who Joel was and when he lived.... anywhee from 900 bc to
200 bc .
Some people say that this is figuratively written. Ie that the
locust represents invading nations whilst some others inteprete
this literally .. locust and fire.. total destruction ..dress in
sackcloth, wail and weep to the Lord for His intervention.
Let all who live in the land tremble for the day of the Lord is
coming - close at hand! Really scary, never before and never to
come after ... when it comes everything will be destroyed,
nothing escapes... sun and moon darkens, stars no longer shine..
BUT YET ..
GOD WANTS YOU TO RETURN TO HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART. Rend your
heart ( not just actions) with a contrite heart (fasting,
weeping and mourning).
Return to Him because He is gracious and compassionate, slow to
anger and abounding in love and He relents from sending
calamity.. who knows, He may even relent and instead leave a
blessing of grain and drink offerings for the lord .
Prophet Joel called for everyone to leave whatever they are
doing and declare a holy fast, call for a sacred assembly, weep
between the portico and the altar... plead for God's mercy.
Then the Lord will take pity on His people and bless them with
new wine and olive oil enough to fully satisfy... drive the
invaders away from the North and the West.. "I will repay you
for the years the locusts have taken away.... never again be
shamed, then you will know I am in Israel, I am the Lord your
God, there is none other.."
And then God's Spirit will be poured out on all people ..
prophesy, dream dreams, see visions...wonders of heaven and
earth will be shown before the dreadful day of the Lord comes.
But everyone who calls on the Lord will be saved, there will be
deliverance even among the survivors whom the Lord calls.
Seems like Joel is describing END DAYS. On that day, nations
will be judged - earth and heaven will tremble BUT the Lord will
be a refuge for His people, a stronghold for the people of
Israel.
Vs 17 till end describes blessings for those who will reside
with our Lord in holy Zion , Holy Jerusalem where there will be
plenty BUt Egypt will be desolate as would Edom... innocent
blood will be avenged by the Lord.
The Lord dwells in Zion.
Book of Joel is a prophecy of end days.... repent, return to the
Lord...before the Day of the Lord comes.
Amen .
