       Hosea 9 my thoughts ..

       Israel may be in a time of wealth and power but the prophet
       warns them not to rejoice and be jubilant like all the other
       godless nations because they have been unfaithfull, greedy
       living in the realms of their flesh.
       Their sacrifices are worthless and not accepted by God because
       of their sins are many, hostility is great, they consider
       prophets to be fools and the godly inspired person a maniac.
       They have sunk deep into corruption.
       So the prophet warns them of the punishment to come, some
       abstract, some specific.
       God saw the people of early Israel with lots of promise eg like
       the early fruit on the fig tree BUT they began to rot when they
       consecrated themselves to the shameful idoland become as vile as
       the thing they love - as in Baal Peor ... ( story of the Moses'
       people when they covorted with the Medianite women ) .
       Hosea warned  that God will reject them because they have not
       obeyed him and they will be wanderers among the nations.
       Again this punishment is part of God's plan to bring the nation
       of early Israel back to Him- my thoughs , not evident in this
       chapter but infered/stated in later chapters.
