       FET's for your AEG's
   DIR By: Carignan1022

       ---------------------------------------------------------
This is about getting mosfets for your AEG's. I would like to
know if people would like to have FETs put in there guns to
improve them. These will only be the basic FETs. No active
breaking and no computerized FETs. I will go over what is does
and the pros and cons first, then about how I am going about
       doing all this.
What is a mosfet and what does it do?
       Well a M.O.S.F.E.T. stands for metal–oxide–semiconductor
field-effect transistor. So it is a type of transistor. It is a
very broad name, but for airsoft it turned into a slang word.
Basically what it is and does is switching. Just like a any
other switch, it turns things on or off. The benefit is that
this is done with out any mechanical parts. So reliability is
high. The mosfet turns on and off by a electrical signal, from a
outside source. The outside source turns on and off the FET
using a gate. So you will have a small third wire that goes to
your trigger instead. Called the gate wire.
In airsoft it is used to turn on and off the main current. So
what it does, is to take the main current from the battery and
have it go straight to the motor, Bypassing the trigger trolley.
The trigger will then instead be used to turn on and off the
mosfet. By bypassing the trolley you took away a big problem.
The problem being resistance in the circuit. The trigger trolley
is really a simple throw switch. When the current goes threw it
it needs to fight going through such a small area. Buy
restricting the main current you are restricting the performance
       of your gun.
Another problem with the trigger trolley is arching. Arching
happens when the trolley gets close to closing and the current
jumps across to make contact. Just like a lighting strike or
static shock. Just on a small scale. This then happens again
when it is let go and the switch opens. This arching makes heat
and also burns the contacts. You can see this as char on the
contacts. This makes the next time it closes and opens worse
because now the current needs to fight thew the burnt contacts
thus making it arch more. Thus making it worse. Now the gun
preforms worse and worse untill the contacts are burnt out
       completely. This robs performance too.
       Pros
       1. Well by using the FET you are not restricting the current at
all. This lets your motor source as much amps as it needs. So
there is the big reason and biggest pro. Giving the gun more
       power!
       2. So buy not letting the main current go throw the trolley you
eliminate arching of the trigger. Keeping your trigger clean and
       like new.
       3. Faster trigger response. Buy having no mechanical means of
switching the current can be passed through instantly.
       4. Higher ROF, due to letting more current go to the motor.
       5. Being able to use more powerful batteries. You can use high
current batteries over 9.6V with out issue. Like lipo's :)
       6. Since you can push more power through your gun, you can start
upgrading to use that power for faster and more powerful guns.
       Con's
       1. There is not real cons to having a FET in your gun. It does
not make anything worse only improves it.
       2. worst I can see is taking the time to install it or let me
       install it. :P
So what am I doing then?
Well I am going to start making FETs to sell and install into
peoples guns. It is a good way to get some tech money, but more
letting people get more out of there guns. Letting use improve
the experience of airsoft. This is still in the planing fade. I
can do it, but it is going to take some out of pocket money from
me and a contributor to start it up. So if there is a interest
of about 7 people I can do this. If there are more people we can
takes some more steps to get them out faster. If people want to
get them soon I can do it in about a two months. This is
factoring getting the out of pocket money to order the parts
need to build them. But once I get the parts and test them, I
can put them in guns in just under an hour.
With the FETs I will be selling it will include the FET, and two
sets of dean T-plugs to convert you charger battery and gun
over. Tymina plugs are crap and should be replaced.
The FET and kitwill have 16 gage high current wire with it.
About 6 inches on each side. The gate wire will be 12 inch. (You
will need to use the existing wires too if you do it yourself.)
It will have two sets of dean and a diagram how to put it all
       together.
You need to know how to take apart and work on your gun to do it
yourself. Also you need to know how to solder well too. If not
you ca break the FET and or your gun.
So down to the best part, cost. :P The FETs will be a 15$ kit.
This is cheap, you can not find it cheaper anywhere else that
includes deans too. Also you don't need to pay for shipping if
you pick it up at a meet.
The other option is having me install it for you. This will only
cost 25$. This is me wiring the fet in. Also adding deans to
your gun, battery and charger. This also includes me rewiring
your gun to better 16g wire.
In all it is cheap to do in all hind sight of upgrading a gun.
Plus I will back any FET that I sell. So if there is a problem
due to my install or FET I will replace it. Also I am not just
buying the FETS but I need to build them too. So I am putting a
good amount of time in for cost basically covering materials.
What do you guys think? Would you pay for this and upgrade your
guns? Any questions about any of this too? Like to know. :)

For some reason the poll is not working. ??? So just post up
       what you would like. ;D

Are you making trigger-fets or regular airsoft mosfets?

Just basic FET's, nothing special. They are time a time tested
design that has proven to work.
FET's that replace the trigger are usually computerized FET's or
       at least PCB based.

So then it doesn't eliminate all arching.

       There is no arching.
The power required to activate the gate is less the 1.5 mOhms.
So it takes less then 1 volt and in reality no amps. So there
is no large or even any current close to having power to arch.
The point to a transistor of any type is to take a signal (in
this case the gate) to turn it on and off. Think about it does
you computer have arching problems when you push the on button?
       Same thing.
Also a FET that replaces the trigger uses a micro switch instead
of a throw switch. A micro switch is still a mechanical switch.
