any Stephen Donaldson fans?

My uncle introduced me to the Thomas Covenant Chronicles by
Stephen Donaldson many many years ago, and ever since I've been
hunting book sales and charity shops to get my own collection of
the books. For Christmas my wife bought me the final book in the
collection.. Which I haven't read yet haha.
Been rereading the entire collection (10 large books in total)
and am nearing the end of book 9. As excited as I am to see how
the story ends I'm also getting depressed, my uncle passed away
before book 8 was on sale, so he missed out on so much of the
story!

I do have the first two chronicles, and knew there was another
set out, but I haven't read that one yet. 4 more books to find
:( but on the other hand, 4 more books to read :)
Have you read his Mordant books? I enjoyed those too.

Not read any of his other books yet, I had to stop buying so
many books, my little bookcase is stuffed to explode and only
has 1/2 my library on it haha. Plan to get a nice big 6' x 4'
bookcase soon though then I can start buying more books
😁
The Third chronicle is a must read if yo u enjoyed the other
two! For me it really helps to tie off quite a few loose ends
left by the other ones, while still moving the plot along with
his usual talent.
I had a bash at writing my own novel a few years back but it
felt more like fanfic blending LOTR, Covenant chronicles, and
Wheel of Time into one story, so I gave up after 15 chapters
lol.

I know the feeling about bookshelves - I recently had another 3
put up, and books seemed to just magically appear to fill them
up. I know need more shelves again!
15 chapters? That is dedication! Why did it feel like fanfic?
And what's wrong with fanfic anyway - some of it can be very
good. And you can always tweak, and keep on tweaking until you
are happy that it's 'yours' rather than fanfic any more.

Just little plot points felt like they had been stolen from
other books.. But then when you have read as many scifi/fantasy
novels as I have just about everything has been done a dozen
times over haha.
Nothing wrong with fanfic.. It's just a case of I was writing
something new and my own that instead felt to me like plagiarism
lol. So I stick to what I'm good at.. Writing poetry 😁

Yes, it can seem like that sometimes. But when you find
something new, it's "OMG! I never thought of doing it that way!"
....which is one of the best feelings. :D
I don't have the patience (or the time!) to try writing a book
myself. But maybe in a few years, when I have more time, I
might consider it. Can I ask what yours was about/like?

It was about a thief for hire, he gets paid to steal a horn from
a noble that has insane security at his mansion, but when he
touches the horn it obliterates his mind. He gets thrown in the
river by the guards and is rescued by a fisherman several days
later.
On the verge of death a priestess that belongs to a reclusive
sect is commanded by her dying goddess to help him, because
ultimately he is the only one who can save the pantheon of elder
gods that are all dying after their brother(chaotic evil deity)
performed a ritual that severed the link to their followers.
The story bounced back and forth in time between the ritual and
the present every few chapters. I think I deleted it from my
hard drive, but still have a small portion of it on onedrive or
dropbox lol.

It sounds fascinating :) Are you ever likely to give it another
go?

I might at some point.. But i really lost my writing mojo when i
decided it was reading like a fanfic rather then a standalone
unique entity. Who knows maybe inspiration will hit and I'll get
back into it.
