       Character dilemma
       By: guest11 Date: September 2, 2015, 9:43 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
To the fellas I met Saturday at GeekFest (I was Master Splinter
;D) I'd just like to say thanks for the great time, my son (the
Minion) thoroughly enjoyed his battle with you!
I've been wanting to get into LARP pretty much my whole life
haha but I never found a group local enough, now I have found CG
and I am soo happy.. but I have a major dilemma. As I explained
on Saturday I've got a back injury - 2 discs crumbling to dust
while a 3rd is compressing my spinal cord. This probably won't
get a whole lot better any time soon and it severely limits me!
I've always wanted to be a rogue type or possibly a knight but
with my back I can't move fast enough to get into a proper
scrum, meaning I will need to take a more back seat support role
       with my character.
I know D&D pretty darn well but I've never actually played a
mage/caster class. How does magic work in the CG world? Do I
need to memorize umpteen magic words to cast a spell? Special
       hand/wand movements?
And finally moving about.... I'm very reliant on my walking
stick to get about, so I had the idea of maybe encasing my
walking stick in some thick foam and painting it to look like a
wooden walking stick to use as a movement aid, but perhaps also
as a melee weapon if I got backed into a corner(being gentle
with it obviously) would that work?
       Cheers!

Perhaps just a suggestion you could be a seasoned knight...one
that now trains and guides the younger ones...if not I am sure
you would make a great mage and the walking stick idea is
       awesome!

       Hi Tromain!
I'm glad you enjoyed Chaosgate at Geekfest, we had a great time
       too 😀
In regards to your dilemma, I'm sorry to hear about your
       situation with your back.
Although players do tend to get involved highly with combat in
most LARP systems, a player who wishes to remain out of combat
fior whatever reason is perfectly normal, you as a player can
get as physically involved as you want, don't feel you have to
disguise the walking stick unless you want to to complete your
costume. In our rules, (which will we are beavering away with as
we speak) if at any time you need to explain something in an out
of character context, e.g, " sorry, but due to medical reasons I
am unable to participate in physical combat" simply raise your
hand and say OUT OF CHARACTER.
Yes, there will be a Mage/wizard option with rules on how to
cast the certain spells available... Coming shortly
       😀😀😀

Hmm I never considered the seasoned knight idea, will have to
have a think about that one!
Cheers Ravage, looking forward to reading up on the rules when
they get posted up! If I had a wood walking stick I might leave
it be but being a light metal one with black handle and white
shaft it would just look so wrong with any costume.. Which is
why I opted for the heavy oak bo staff for my Splinter costume
       at GeekFest haha.

       Hi tromain
Look up irregular props on facebook as they do weapons that can
be used as a walking stick or to rest on, ironically a lot of
larpers do have joint and back problems (like myself)
       Do the seasoned knight!!!!!

I've opted for a shadow elf ranger :D
I can still get in the action when I'm up for it and if things
get too much I can just bow out. I'm sure any of the
healers/mages lurking in the background wouldn't mind a little
       company anyways haha!

Protect the healers Tromain...plus I am sure Lerryn would defend
with help if needed. Maybe as a side story someone could give
Lerryn some training...she/I will need it!
