As darkness falls... (The Claw encampment)
       By: guest5 Date: September 20, 2016, 5:26 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
As darkness falls over the land, ebony shadows smothering the
last burning hues of the dying day, a huge dancing fire roared
at the centre of the Claw encampment. Orange flames licked at
the piled logs offering warmth and comfort from the chilling
night, cold and hungry Willow settled down upon her blanket at
the edge of the fire. Piercing a soft, white marshmallow upon a
sharpened twig, the little foxing toasted the sweet treat,
watching the flames with pale green eyes and welcoming the
company and conversation of her now fellow Claw...

Saethwr stands in silence, the shadows from the flames
flickering over his features. He watches as Willow skewers a
marshmallow with a stick. He stretches his arms out to warm his
hands, waiting for those of the Claw to strike up in
       conversation.

The faint aroma of toasting marshmallows floated through the
air, crashing through Vi'ile's contemplation of the darkening
sky. Pinpricks of pain shot through her spine as long-buried
       memories threatened to resurface.
Snarling, she turned and marched towards the source of the
intrusion, intent on its destruction. But as she approached the
flames and the figures became clear, she abruptly stopped and
       stumbled backwards.
Bowing low and gently rocking, she managed to utter an
apology. "I.... am sorry. I did not mean.... Do not be
       frightened. Please.... I am sorry."
She took another step backwards, now muttering the strange
litany Sanctitas had taught her to help bring the calm. She must
not hurt these two. They were under her protection and bound by
       blood.

Lilith came skipping out of the darkness, nearly running into
Viile. Throwing her arm around the other woman, she spun around
       and giggled.
"Marshmallows!!" she cried. "Come on, you've got to try these!
They are almost as good as Piski!"
And with that, she skipped off towards the fire, to wheedle some
marshmallows out of the young foxling that Ragana liked so much.
Lilith thought she could be fun, but Ragana didn't like it when
she played with people; she tended to play until they stopped
screaming and then, well, there wasn't much left.

A voice that Willow recognised as the malodorous and lecherous
Den called Frank echoed across from just outside the opposite
Crown encampment, where Frank had been imprisoned in a large
iron cage. "Dirty Frank smells marshmallows. Can Dirty Frank
have one...as well as anything else soft and squidgy you ladies
       might have to offer?"
Before anyone in the Claw camp could answer, there was a yell of
"Schwiegen!", and the noise of a blunt impact, followed by a
noise that could very well have been Dirty Frank falling down
       unconscious.

Willow felt a blush upon her cheeks, a caress of crimson heat
that was not due to the fire as she caught herself staring at
Saethwr. The tall, handsome elf was silent, lost in his
thoughts...thoughts Willow secretly longed to be of her.
The little foxling was just about to rise from the fire to offer
Saethwr a toasted marshmallow when the female cannibal stumbled
from the shadows, she seemed troubled, almost angry which scared
Willow a little but when Vi'ile started to apologise Willow
       suddenly felt worried about her.
Willow slowly gathered up her skirts and rose, nervous but
offering Vil'ile a shy smile, she knew Saethwr would protect her
and the Claw member had swore an blood oath that no harm would
befall them from her hand. But before the little foxling could
speak the whirlwind that was Lilith Storm had grabbed her,
squeezing her with a friendly embrace then demanded a
       marshmallow to spear and roast.
Willow turned her head, a familiar but distant voice upon the
night air for a moment...and then silence. Willow shrugged and
turning back to Lilith bid her sit down by the fire while she
went to tempted a few words from the stoic elf with a warm, soft
       marshmallow.

Lilith roasted a couple of marshmallows while watching the
cannibal. Once they were properly crispy and gooey, she skipped
       over.
"Here. Have one." and dropping one of the sticky things in the
cannibal's hand, she scooted back to the fire to eat some. She
kept watching the cannibal out of the corner of her eye though.

Saethwr approached the flames and sat next to Vi'ille. Without
looking directly at her, he began to speak.
"Listen to me lady. I have a trust in yourself and your clan,
long before I shared the blood oath with you. Never be afraid to
show your true self. Otherwise, you may end up more alone in
raising would then you could imagine. Are you going to eat
that?" He gestures casually with one hand towards the
       marshmallow sat in her hands.

The elf's gentle words broke Vi'ile from her trance and she
realised she was staring at the sticky marshmallow cooling in
       her hands.
"No. Please. You..." She passed the treat to Saethwr, visibly
shuddering as she let it go. The cannibal was silent for a
moment as she wiped her hands on the wet grass. When she spoke
again, all traces of vulnerability were gone.
"You speak of trust, Elf. But how can this be? The only
creatures to ever place trust in me had either a surplus of
innocence or arrogance. It is clear that you are lacking in
both. I have been hunted by folk all over the land simply
because they heard stories about this monster they believed me
to be. What reason could you have to trust one so feared and
       despised?"

The elf sighed and looked at the ground before speaking. "My
innocence was lost the day my mother taught me how to kill my
fellow creatures. And my arrogance? That left when I refused to
blindly follow a general's orders" He looked into her eyes, as
if looking at her soul. "I have met many who are more of a
monster than you. You cannot help your heritage. My trust is
given to you simply because you have not tried to harm me once
since we met. Proof that you're not what others might believe,"
Saethwr placed a kiss on her forehead, in an almost fatherly way
before looking around the fire. "Of course, if you so much as
harm a single hair on Willow's head, I will ensure your family
cease to exist!" With this, he smiled at Vi'ile then stood up
and wandered away from the fire.
