The Empire - Military States and Nation of War. [Updated 17/9/16

The Dominion States of the Weigand Empire
Summary
Of the many nations, factions, empires, countries and tribes
that inhabit the world in which Chaosgate exists, few are as war
torn and blood soaked in it's history as The Dominion States of
the Weigand Empire, more commonly known simply as 'The Empire'
or 'The Dominion.' The Empire exists as several provinces, each
with it's own army and heraldry, all sworn in unyielding loyalty
to serve their nation head: Emperor Maximilian III. Although not
necessarily impressive in trade craft or magic as other races
and nations, the Empire is not limited by tradition and continue
to progress culturally, militarily and technologically.
A Brief History.
During a great Greenskin incursion, desparation was rife amongst
what was once several small warring human countries based on
mainland Europia. The internal fightings rendered the scattered
armies unprepared, eventually requiring the forming of the
'Federation Alliance' to quell the invasion. Seven countries
joined, those that didn't were quickly smashed asunder by the
green tide. Forming a hardened bastion of men at Hell-Peak pass,
the Gwer broke against the reformed defence. A counter attack
thrust deep, stabbing the heart of the combined Orc, Troll and
Goblin offensive.
Though countless thousands died, the long war of attrition was a
pyrrhic victory for the Federation Alliance. With the common
enemy defeated, it was always known future attacks may occur,
whether by beast, other nations or those that pass for no longer
living or even of this realm. Through several hard years of
politics and inter-diplomacy, capitulation was eventually
decided upon by the smallest of the nations in the federation.
One by one, they handed over their power to then Castellan,
giving over all their territory, military assets, trade and laws
- creating in it's wake The Dominion States of the Weigand
Empire.
It has been a long five hundred years since then, but the Empire
has prospered. Through both diplomacy and warfare, it has
expanded to dominate most of Europia, adding to the expanding
list of Provinces under control of the Emperor. But now, the
clash of full scale war has been silenced as outward expansion
reverts to inward defence. This isolation against the outside
world for the past some fifty years has grown the seeds of
doubt, paranoia and xenophobia. Beset on all sides by what the
citizens percieve as what could be enemies, the Empire stays on
guard, ever vigilant.
Politics and Diplomacy
The political stature of the Empire is one of extreme
Imperialism. A single Emperor (Maximillian III) rules over all
the provinces, using Governors as puppets to give the impression
of somewhat democratic state, though this is false. Heirs to the
throne are limited to that of the Emperor's bloodline only,
though if no heir is present, an election will be held for for
one of the current serving Castellan Generals to be chosen as
the successor.
Diplomatically, the Empire favours the Human race above all and
often does not enjoy great relations with anything other than
Human. Xenophobic, and not afraid to show it, they are quick to
mistrust all other races. Their behaviour in terms of diplomacy
tends to favour other nations that are of equal or near
strength, giving a sense of respect. They are prone to trade,
even with non-humans, for a fair price. They have no official
allies, nor any official enemies - they refuse to have either.
It is unlikely they will declare war, or march to war with
another by the fact they have no interest in the world at large.
Unless they find good reason to exclusively march on force, they
are content to remain isolated within the walled lands that they
live.
Culture
The life of a citizen of the Empire is typically short - taking
into account the State Service. While the great Incursion War
has long passed, in some essences the paranoia of another attack
is ever present - citizens fearing that within every shadow
could be a danger, or an enemy around the corner, though this is
unlikely with the amount of troops that safeguard and patrol the
streets. It is a base fear that the Emperor and his castellans
constantly exploit to gain forever more volunteers for the vast
armies, but it is not without its reward.
Entertainment comes in the forms of theater productions,
jousting, arena fighting, hunting and athletic sports. The
Empire does not live with a mundane life, choosing to make the
best of what they have when they can, before being required to
move on to service. Furthermore, the Empire is entirely Gender
Equal. There is no great differentiation between man and women
in terms of respect, job prospects or rights. In fact, two of
the current serving Castellan Generals are Women. It is entirely
coincidental that there has yet to be a female Empress on the
throne - but is a possibility if a female heir is ever produced
in the future.
Farming and mining is a stead fast position in the provinces,
and is respected almost as much as being a soldier is. Villages
are often constructed around these natural resource locations or
fertile lands. It may not be as brash or glory bound as being a
State Trooper is, but it provides the lifeblood for them to
exist. Unemployment is found to be abhorent, and all efforts are
made to ensure no such thing exists. There is always work to be
done. In addition to this, homelessness is just as forbidden.
The Emperor decrees, with the agreement of all the provincial
governors, that any homeless members of society (especially
those who have served) are to be found some form of accomidation
and if required, work. While the nation is primarily formed on
Military fundamental ideas, it offers a lucrative and somewhat
appealing life to those who can live it - but only in return for
absolute loyalty, and your service to the Emperor until you die.
Military, Tactics and Technology
The military of the Empire is a fragmented affair. Each province
is required by law to raise and maintain at the very minimum two
armies which are referred to as a State Army, consisting of so
called State Troops. These Regiments of State troops regularly
hold war games and trainings against other provinces, often with
dangerous weapons, allowing only the strongest to survive and
thus stay hardened. The hardy soldiers are the Empire's greatest
asset, and their amibition has and always shall remain to be the
best troops the world has ever seen.
Each State Army is headed by a General, who in turn is under the
command of the Provincial Governor. These Governors are under
command of the Emperor. Each army is expected to hold at least
several regiments of Halberdiers and ranged forces such as
Crossbowmen and skirmish units such as Swordsmen or Light
Calvary. The Imperial Army (The one under direct command of the
Emperor himself) is regarded as the largest, most
technologically advanced and by far the most well supplied army
within the Empire. The generals of these forces are chosen from
the best men available, called Castellan Generals.
The tactical nature of all Empire armies is usually designed in
a way to present a strong frontline of elite soldiers that can
wither down their enemies in organised formations, with strong
flanking support from Calvary or light skirmish infantry. More
often than not, it is common to see Empire armies outnumbered,
by choice. The Emperor decrees that his men are so effective
that they are worth at least ten average fighters. As such, the
armies sent are generally deemed in proportion to the opponents
army size they are sent to fight. While this can seem
anti-productive, it has yet to prove untrue.
With technology, new devices of war such as Rocket Artillery,
Mortars and Handgonnes are being hailed as the future of
warfare. They are produced in a medicore quantity, with a lack
of machining processes to mass produce these devices. It will be
many decades before they can ever be deployed en masse or in
such a scale to be truly effective, but it has to be noted that
they have been deployed in combat situations and can radically
change the outcome of the given battle. Due to their rarity,
they are reserved for use in the Imperial Army.
Import and Export
Mainly through the use of commercial trade fleets, trade exists
in a highly regulated manner. There is little access via foot to
the Empire, and most, if not all trade caravans are turned away.
It has been the decree of many a year since the formation of the
Empire that only it's own citizens may come and go as they
please in such a manner. The main exported goods are usually
weapons, or even State approved Mercenary groups. There is
little food or luxury goods that are of interest to be sent out,
though there is sometimes a calling for the flamboyant clothing
that the Empire usually wears. Imports mainly come in the form
of general supplies such as crockery, food and livestock. While
the military industry of the Empire is strong, the more basic
works are lacking in terms of scale to the rest of the world for
use in exporting. Most of these basic goods such as crops,
metals and leathers are kept within, for use in keeping the
armies well supplied.

Love the enthusiasm mate, I see you have put alot of work into
this. As it stands though the world outside Kernow is in its
early development stage and we haven't confirmed what the rest
of the world is like. So as it stands we can't say yes or no to
the empire you have written but when we do expand we will have a
look at it again and see if it fits our design.
As for your character, you are more than welcome to be German
and follow your own political views.

Sure! No problemo. I'm going to expand on it a little more at
some point tonight, just to keep myself busy.

For Marcus/Astandord: just to add a bit of extra flavour to the
Weigand empire, I thought it might be nice for the Schwartz
Garde to have a marching song, so I wrote this to the tune of
the Panzerlied. For the mods: Let's just get this out of the
way. This song is based heavily on a WW2 Nazi song. If you feel
it to be inappropriate or offensive (or any other words used in
that politically correct crapola), feel free to delete this
post. However, the only offensive word I can see in this rewrite
is "Reich", and this is used in the original sense of "empire"
rather than as a reference to the Third Reich. At your
discretion, then...
Was gilt denn unser leben, fur unsres Reiches heer
For those who don't speak German, and want to know what the
above means, I include an English translation.
If it storms or snows, or the sun shines on us,
The day burning hot, or the ice cold night.
Dusty are our faces, but joyful are our minds
(Yes, our minds!)
We move our horses forward into the storm wind's roar.
With thundering hoofbeats, as fast as lightning,
We engage the enemy, sheltered in armour plate,
Ahead of our comrades, in battle all alone
(Yes, we alone!)
That's how we can push deep into the enemy ranks.
When an enemy army appears before us,
The order "Attack!" Is given and we close with the foe,
What do our lives matter, but for the Empire 's army?
(Yes, Empire 's army!)
To die for Weigand is our highest honour!
With obstacles and pitfalls the foe block our path,
We laugh about it and simply go around them,
And if crossbows fire at us, hidden in yellow sand
(Yes, yellow sand!)
We seek out a way that no-one else found.
And if we are abandoned by treacherous luck,
And if we can't return home again,
If Death's arrow finds us, or fate calls us away
(Yes, fate away!)
Then let the battlefield become our honourable grave!

Noted figures by province.
Korralan:
[li]Governor Jennifer Katzenbach.
- Exceptionally tall and even somewhat masculine, Jennifer is
the stout and unrelenting Governor of Korralan. She commands her
lands with an iron fist, utterly willing to destroy any trace of
corruption against the throne within her borders. She is
generally approved of by her citizens and enjoys healthy
relations with the other provinces and is regarded as a close
friend to the Emperor and some of the Castellans.[/li]
[li]Grand Inquisitor Tomiaah Boursche
- Within Korralan lies the Tower of Scrutiny, the bastion where
Witch Hunters and Monster Slayers are trained by the Grand
Inquisitor. Broad shouldered and chiseled, he is a power house
of strength from head to toe, and his willpower outmatches even
that. While there is no percieved great threat from within from
the likes of the undead and demons, there will always be a need
to keep a watchful eye out, to prevent the spread of undeath
before it can ever take hold. [/li]
[li]General Strauss Von Erntdorf.
- Short in temper and height, he's stocky and bearded. What he
lacks in manners, he makes up for in extreme military genius. He
commands the State Armies of Korralan, and the Provincial Guard.
He favours large infantry blocks over Calvary and
Skirmishers.[/li]
Caphialan:
[li]Governor Alexander Rotstein
- A man of little words, Alexander is a cautious and diplomatic
leader. He values the opinions of all involved in any decision
that is required to be made, often thinking of the many outcomes
and possible scenarios that can come from said decision. He is
well regarded as a man of his word, though his bourts of silent
thinking have often been said to un-nerve those around him into
uncomfortable awkwardness. [/li]
[li]Arbiter Liza Totflam
- Cold and unforgiving, the Arbiter is the supreme authority on
rooting out treachery to the Emperor, the Empire and all of its
citizens. While not imposing physically, her black clothes and
silver skulled mask as well as chilling presence soon make up
for this. Armed with a master crafted sword known as Silver
Fang, she is entirely dedicated to finding and brutally
eviscerating all those who stand against her, whether by cutting
them down personally, charing her followers with finding the
enemies of the Throne and hanging them, or fates which are far,
far, far worse.[/li]
[li] Grand-Confessor Arvenik
- A true abombination, it is only through his loyalty that he is
allowed to endure. Existing as a re-animated corpse, the Grand
Confessor was one of the original advisors to the first Emperor
many generations ago. Cursed to walk the Earth forever when he
was killed at the Battle of Marsh-haven, he has since served as
the right hand to the Arbiter of Caphialan. Master Torturer, he
is the only allowed practioner of Black Magic within the
entirety of the Empire - he can often be found vomitting maggots
and gut rot into his victims, stripping their brains of their
secrets and leaving a cold, grey corpse in return to later
experiment on (If he does not do so when they are still
alive.).[/li]
Siilvan:
[li]Governor Janik Reinhardt
- The most flamboyant and ostentatious of the Governors, Janik
is a man of luxury. His lifestyle features the conquering of
many men and women (often at the same time) in his bedroom
nearly every night, with the consumption of huge amounts of
imported alcohol and food. He is viewed upon by all others as a
pompous and sometimes arrogant, but revered as the most kind to
the citenzry. Janik holds monthly province wide holidays and
feasts, including a yearly State lottery.[/li]
[li]General Lukas Waldstein
- A heavy pipe smoker, Lukas is revered as the Master of siege
warfare. He commands his army from the frontline directly,
placing emphasis on balance of forces. Often, he can be seen
leading his men into combat on foot, or charging with his heavy
calvary - but it is during sieges when he becomes most
prominent. His knowledge of such matters is second to none in
the provinces. His beard also gives General Strauss Von Erntdorf
a run for his money.[/li]
[li] Duke Konstantin Dischinger
- There are only two provinces within the entire Empire which
are large enough to facilitate the need and requirement for a
tertiary leadership (The second being Averslan) and the
Dischinger legacy has always, since the creation of the Empire,
been given rule over the Gelt Hügel and its keep, as well as the
surrounding areas in Siilvan. Though respected to a degree, and
equally pitied, he is regarded as an upstart in current times.
By law, the Duke may not maintain an army of his own, yet he
persists in trying to create one, attempting to find loop holes
to allow him to command. This would not be an issue so much, if
it were not for the fact he is only seventeen. The pity
attributed to him is because of this fact - his father died of
disease early on, to which Konstantin was the only heir.[/li]
Kesslerlan:
[li]Governor-General Siegmund Totskrieg.
- In command of the most dangerous province in the Empire, the
Governor General is a ruthless man. He is charged with the
defence of the most Northern entrance through Hell-Peak Pass,
the ancestral birth place of the Empire. Siegmund commands from
Wolfsburg Keep, where he is adamant to ensure his province is
and always will be secure against all threats. He is the holder
of the title of Governor-General by right of tradition, a name
that has been passed down to all Governors of Kesslerlan.
Siegmund commands the Schwarze Garde (Black Guard), an elite
army of veterans that stand ready to defend the realm at a
moments notice.[/li]
[li] General Manfred Holtzmann
- Manfred was a ranker, and raised to prominence due to a long
and prestigious service, which was also no doubt helped by his
legacy that links back to high ranking members of the original
Federation Alliance. Manfred is a resilient and capable
infantryman, tactically sound in defensive battles of wars of
attrition - especially against larger forces. He and his men are
often combatting Greenskin Warbands beyond the pass, quelling
their numbers before they can swell too far and threaten the
Empire again.[/li]
[li]Captain Reinhard Bachmayer
- Irascible, ferocious and intimidating. The three words that
sum up Reinhard very well. He is the primary troop commander of
the Schwarze Garde, and is a grizzled veteran of numerous
engagements with the Greenskin and the Chaos alike. His body
bares many scars from those who have tried to destroy him, yet
he endures, not yet ready to give in. He refuses to simply
die.[/li]
Averslan:
[li]Governor Carsten Wiedenfeld
- The least militaristic of the Governors, Carsten holds the
single largest supply of food production within the Empire,
attributed to the fertile lands to grow crops upon. Often
praised for 'being down to earth' and likeable in character,
Carsten is well recieved and loved by his people. While not as
experienced in military affairs as the others, he is exceptional
in his knowledge of agriculture and foreign diplomacy. [/li]
[li]Duchess Amelie Kirstein
- Known as The Lady of Velvet, Amelie is well known for her use
of incredibly luxurious clothing made of the material for which
she is named. She lives a wealthy life of luxury and is
self-obssessed. Above all, she is deeply vain. Despite this, she
is the folly of many a mans heart. Woe for them, for they think
with their lust, not their brain.[/li]
Baniclan:
[li]Governor Wulf Aach
- Kind-hearted, Jolly and Loveable, the words of his citizens
and friends to describe him. Cruel, Vicious and Terrifying, the
words of his enemies. He strives to destroy the enemies of the
Empire so that his people may prosper, and does not care how he
does this. Tales of his great victories against the barbarian
tribes, beastmen, greenskin and a myriad of other opponents are
well known in the Empire, but very few actually detail the
attrocities he caused against them. Such details are often so
vile, they are found even too disgusting for the Xenophobic
Empire to acknowledge or wish to know of.[/li]
[li]Master Magus Adalwin Breslau
- Magic use is generally considered a despicable thing, and that
being able to channel such is to be untrustworthy. However,
rather than commit genocide on its own peple, the Empire decrees
that those who are able of such control of magic, are to be
trained in their skills and employed in use of the state under
harsh restrictions. It falls to Adalwin to orchestrate
identifying, kidnapping/press-ganging/acquiring the recruit and
then training these new members. Bloodlines that can tap into
magic use are incredibly scarce within the Empire, and as such,
he often only finds ten or so new members per year at best. He
is feared, for his expertise in the arcane, but his interests
lie with bettering those like him, and proving himself worthy of
being a citizen of the Empire.[/li]

[li]Governor-Lord Clemens Graebner
- Regarded as a stoic and hardy fellow, Clemens Graebner is
seldom seen in public, preferring to rule over his blood toiled
lands from Castle Drebeca. Though he enforces little taxation,
he incites large-scale defensive training for all his citizens,
requiring them to be every weary and prepared in case of attack
from the Vampires and their underlings from the South Eastern
border. He is often rumoured to be a Vampire himself, lended to
his unwillingness to leave the castle, especially during the day
- though such rumours are categorically untrue.[/li]
[li]Lady Brunhild Graebner
- Daughter of the Governor Lord, she has recently reached the
age of twenty, where by request of her birthday present, she was
granted the wish to create her own personal Knightly order.
Given the nickname of 'The Mistress of the Blood Rose' she and
her elite heavy calvary often go on minor crusades within the
province, finding and crushing any Vampiric and undead taint
found. She is kind hearted, towards her fellow humans at
least.[/li]

[li]Emperor Maximilian III
- The current residing ruler of the Dominion/Empire, Maximilian
is an intimidating presence. Battle-scarred and fully
experienced with the ways of war, he is imperturbable with all
his given tasks. He has seen the Empire through recent harships,
including the most recent Beastkin and Chaos-touched incursions,
crushing them entirely with a composed iron fist. Valuing
military tradition to the highest standard, Maximilian also
places a great amount of the Empire's resources into research
and experimentation to further expand their methods of defence
and conquest. Currently, he is married to Lady Klara Kaulitz,
with no current children.[/li]
[li]Castellan-General Markus Cronberg
- Acting as both an Imperial Commander and also that of a
steadfast honor guard to the Emperor, Markus commands an aire of
respect and authority. Clad in the finest armour, second only to
that of the Emperor, he retains command directly from the
frontline. His regiment, the Sturm Garde, are a force of heavily
armoured shock troops - some of which have been equipped with
the newest of technologies, such as the handgonne. Wielding a
large two-handed Flamberge, Markus has often been seen cleaving
enemy formations in twain with great courage. It is no wonder,
then, how this brute of a man made it to personal honor guard of
the Emperor.[/li]

Current outposts and holds within Kernow/The Duchy.
Kelheim Keep:
- The only fully defended and manned station within the Duchy,
Kelheim keep is a staging ground and resupply post for all
forces and Mercenary units within the realm. Built of reinforced
walls, towers with compliments of heavy weapons and well stocked
with ammunition and food, Kehleim keep is the one true and fully
realized hold in Kernow and indeed the rest of the country. Able
to hold up to four hundred men for up to a whole year, it has
only ever been attacked once; by a warband of marauding
Greenskins. They were utterly crushed, with no survivors.
Currently, it's main function is as a supply link to authorized
mercenary groups that are in operation in the area, ressuplying
them with manpower and other provisions, as well as taking their
reports - of both their activity, and of detailed observations
of all locations and noted persons they come across. Should ever
a time arise that the Duchy wishes to harm the Dominion, they
will need to remove this persistent fortress, and, should a time
ever arise that the Dominion wishes to invade and secure control
of the entire country, they will do so by deploying their troops
to be based here first.
It truly is, the one major connection between the two lands of
the Duchy and the Dominion States of the Weigand Empire.
Blut-Krieg Outpost.
- Raised by the Wolfsburg Free Company in September 566 AE, the
outpost is the closest staging point to the main area in which
the current Chaosgates appear. As of now, it sits half a mile
from the Pensans gate, with the capacity to hold up to fifty
combat ready soldiers. There are plans by the company to expand
the site into a permanent hold, where the Company and the Empire
can station more men; for both mercenary work, and to combat the
daemon threat.
