Six measures would make it possible. First, the EU , its Member
States and their companies must address the risks related to
dependencies in the supply chain of raw materials for
electrolyzers. A combination of technological innovation and
government support may prove to be the best solution. Since it
seems difficult, or even impossible, to achieve a
diversification of mgp suppliers , it is imperative to quickly
build a recycling infrastructure, on the one hand, and reduce
the iridium loading in pem electrolyzers on the other.
Furthermore, clear communication about the exact level of demand
for those metals will allow raw material suppliers to plan ahead
and provide investment security for new mining projects.
Most EU countries lack their own international Phone Number List

companies. However, the example of the
Japanese state agency jogmec shows that foreign mining projects
can be promoted through loans, investments and guarantees. The
EU should develop a similar instrument to boost foreign private
mining activities and also consider the creation of a leading
European mining company. Secondly, it is necessary to consider
sustainability aspects in resource supply chains.

As the mining protests in South Africa have shown, neglecting
sustainability can affect security of supply. Strengthening
public-private partnerships and the capacities of public
institutions in mining countries ensures that environmental and
social criteria are better taken into account, possibly avoiding
unrest and supply disruptions. Third, commodity-specific
bilateral partnerships (especially with Indonesia, the
Philippines, Australia and South Africa) should be negotiated or
expanded for certain commodities such as nickel or mgp.
