       It's Still Not The Same
   DIR By: Scrant
       Date: October 21, 2019, 11:39 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Scrant sits cross-legged, nestled in the branches of an
average-sized tree. Stabilizing a thick block of wood between
the soles of her shoes, she carves slivers off of it with a
dagger, one scrape at a time. She had been working at it for a
few hours, but it only looked less like a recognizable shape
than when she started. The true purpose for attempting to
perform a task that she was so clearly terrible at was to become
more proficient with her right arm. After an incident in which
she was lured out by a supposed friend and ambushed, she was
down an arm, her previously dominant one. Weeks had passed, but
she swore that she could still feel phantom pains from the
missing limb. Letting out a frustrated sigh, she lays back
against the truck of the tree and lets her legs dangle around
the branch, allowing the mangled block of wood drop to the
       ground.

"Ack! What's this? Who threw that? Come out! Come out right now!
       Coward!"
A misshapen wooden block strikes Tryce directly on the top of
his head as he was heading out from the camp. He rubs the spot
       where it hit.
"Yikes. That's gonna leave a bruise."
Finally, he glances up, noticing Scrant's legs dangling from
       above.
"Ahhh! Is that the Bandit Prince I see up there?" Not receiving
an immediate response, he continues on, speaking a mile a
minute. "Hey! Hey! Don't just ignore me. The least you could do
is apologize. You've injured my beautiful head with your ugly
art project. Are you deaf? Are you sleeping? Bam! Bam! Bam! Wake
up! It's time to get up, Prince! It's a beautiful day with
sunshine and birds singing and money's in the air. Don't just
waste it sleeping, idiot! Dummy! Come out of that tree, Prince!"

The very last voice that Scrant would've wanted to hear pesters
her ears. She attempts to ignore him, closing her eyes and
pretending she couldn't hear him yelling. Unfortunately, that
just ends up riling him up more. Even the singing birds that he
had mentioned fly off at the rapidly increasing volume of his
voice. Fed up, she finally grants him the attention he was
pleading for, shouting down at him in her usual gruff voice.
"Oi! Shut your trap! You're givin' me a right ache in the head!"
Scrant tucks her dagger into her belt. She leans her head over
the edge of the branch, glaring down at Tryce's grinning face.
"The hell do you want, Tryce?"

"Heeeey. Don't be rude, Prince! I'm doing you a favor, waking
you up before noon. You'll miss the whole day if you just sleep
like that. Stop playing dead! Show some gratitude. I could be
making 20 gold every second, but I took time out of my day to
come wake you up. Aren't I nice? You should be happy."
Lifting his leg, Tryce swiftly extends his leg and kicks the
trunk of the tree Scrant was perched it, causing it to shake a
bit. Remaining balanced against it, he stares up at Scrant.
"Come out of that tree, Prince! I have something for you! If you
don't come down, I'll kick down this tree! You don't believe I
can? Watch me! Kyah! Kyah! Kyah! Kyah! Kyah!"
Tryce delivers five rapid kicks to the truck of the tree. He
doesn't cause any damage to it, aside from knocking some of the
bark off, but his kicking does cause the tree to shake.

The shaking from Tryce's incessant kicking finally starts to
destabilize Scrant's position. She would fall off of her branch
if she didn't get down. Placing her palm down for balance, she
hops up onto the tips off her toes. She then wraps her hand
around the branch, dropping down and swinging herself over to
another, lower one. Sticking the landing, she quickly brings her
arm down to the new branch, performing the same action to go
down even lower. Much closer to the ground, she braces her back
against the trunk of the tree, sliding the rest of the way to
the grass below. As her foot makes contact, she lets out a sigh
of relief, placing her hand over her chest. Her heart was
       beating incredibly fast.
"This had better be good, damn idiot."
She turns her sharpened gaze onto the blond-haired boy,
       breathing heavily in between words.
"I oughta gut you for that stunt, I should."

       {Intimidation Failed}
"What? Gut me? How would you even hold me steady with one arm?
You're not even half the man you used to be, Prince! Ahahaha!"
Tryce points at where Scrant's left arm had been.
"You've been moping around ever since you got out of the medical
tent. Don't you think it's time for you to stop. Or are you just
useless now? Is that it? Is it? Did I guess right? Here. Here. I
have an idea. Remember that I had something for you? Well, you
can choose what it is! Here, three choices! A - We fight! If you
win, you can climb your silly tree and go back to sleep. I'll
leave and it'll be like I was never here! B - If you're too
useless to fight, I'll just beat you up and hang you from the
flagpole at camp! I'll tie you up like a cocoon so everyone can
laugh at the Bandit Prince! Ahahahaha! Or... C! Well I forgot
what C is! So you can go ahead and pick one! B? You want B,
right? One-armed Prince can't fight anymore, so he just sits in
trees and cries. It's so sad. So sad, Prince. You can't even
beat me with two arms. Now you only have one! Hahaha. This'll be
       funny!"
Tryce taunts the seething Scrant, bouncing around on his toes,
already preparing his fighting stance. He knew just the right
buttons to press to sour her mood.

Scrant was getting more and more frustrated by the second. Tryce
was an infuriating individual in his own right, but now he was
intentionally provoking her. She recognized that and knew that
she shouldn't respond, but if she didn't, he would keep going
and going until she finally did. She was well aware of how far
his patience stretched. She growls to herself under her breath.
       "A well-on kretin, init?"
She maintains her cool... until Tryce starts to call her useless
without her left arm. Her hand lowers to her waist. Her
       breathing grows staggered as she
"What of it, Tryce?! Y'oughta learn to mind your own for once in
your life! You've been yammering on for a minute here and I've
had it. I'll shut you up for good this time."
       {Attack 21}
With that said, she draws her dagger in a backfisted grip,
swinging it forward towards the other bandit's chest.

Tryce's eyes widen as Scrant's dagger cuts deep into his skin
with a single swipe. His shirt tears, a wide gash staining the
white fabric with blood. He stumbles back a bit, taken by
surprise by the ferocity of Scrant's opening attack. After
recovering from his initial shock, his confident smirk returns.
"What's wrong, Prince? Did I make you mad? Can't take a little
teasing? What a baby. Are you gonna cry, baby? Well, Daddy can't
hear you here, and he wouldn't come even if he could. They call
you the Prince, but the King doesn't even know your name. Isn't
       that pathethic?"
       {Attack 21; Damage 4}
He starts to laugh, then lunges forward on his left foot. He
then twists his body, aiming a kick with his right leg at
       Scrant's side.

Scrant does her best to ignore the taunting, but Tryce's
comments about the bandit king hit home for her. She never had a
connection to the man, like most of his children, but the idea
that she was living in his shadow despite that drove her up a
wall. She tried her best to break free, doing the best she could
to be the best. But, all her efforts got her was a dangerous
level of notoriety, resulting in the incident that cost her her
arm and left her out of commission for half a year.
"Ain't got a drop patience for your noise, Tryce. Last chance,
before it's your neck tha-- Rrgh!"
       {Dodge 13; HP: 6/10}
As Scrant continues her threats, she's struck in the side by
Tryce's kick. She lowers her hand to rub the spot where it hit
with the heel of her palm, pain pulsing through her body. He
knocked the wind out of her with a single strike.
"You're asking for it now. I ain't lost to anyone, and I ain't
       planning on starting now!"
       {Attack 11; Damage 4}
Without taking her hand off her side, Scrant leans forward and
leaps towards Tryce. Landing on her right foot, she immediately
springs off of it, driving her knee towards Tryce's chest.

Tryce lifts his own knee, meeting Scrant's and pressing against
it. Locked in their one-legged clash, he leans forward to look
       her in the eye.
"Getting rusty, Scrant? It's not like you to be so weak! Maybe
it's old age? Old man! Old man! A missing arm shouldn't affect
your kicks! I'm not going to get beat up by a pachinko machine,
you know? Ahahaha! How about I get you some balls, 'cause you
clearly don't have any of your own!"
       {Attack: 8; Damage: 3}
He still doesn't shut up. Shifting his stance counter-clockwise,
he breaks the clash, letting gravity send Scrant past him.
Placing down his lifted leg, he swings the other around in a
       wide roundhouse.
