Background: Charlatan
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Height: 0'7"
Weight: 11oz
Eyes: Black
Skin: Dark

Personality: Callie is a shrewd individual. Raised in a gambling
den, she came to meet hundreds of different kinds of people, all
eager to have a conversation with a "lucky" fairy. She learned
of all sorts of distant places, people, and notable figures.
She's easily able to read people, typically garnering their
intentions within seconds of meeting them. She has a bit of a
hatred for authority, stemming from the reason she had to leave
behind her beloved hometown. She can't help but attempt to
swindle those she thinks are in power, but her personal code
prevents her from using the same tactics on the weak. She's a
born gambler, unable to resist a good wager, regardless of the
risk. This sometimes bites her in the foot, but her honor code
doesn't prevent her from weaseling her way out of paying up.
Background: Callie was born within the walls of the Merryjack
tavern in Phandalin. Fairies aren't commonly seen outside of the
Fey Forests, as they tend to remain out of sight, hidden in
walls, trees, attics, and all manner of other places when they
reside within cities. Because of this, seeing one is considered
to be good luck and capturing one was expected to guarantee good
luck for years. In a place such as the Merryjack, where all
manner of gambling and other seedy activities go down, luck is a
constant factor. Between the card games, the dice rolling, and
the chance of ending up in a brawl, the luck of fairies was
actively sought out by frequent patrons. This meant that the
fairies living in the building had to be extra careful not to be
seen. They'd snatch food when people weren't looking and fashion
tools from discarded scraps. The fairies survived for decades
using this method. Callie, when she was born, found herself
fascinated by the actions of the larger races outside of their
hiding place. She'd watch them through a knothole, absorbing the
knowledge of games and understanding all of the subtle tells and
cues among the players. She'd spend almost all of her days
staring, predicting who would win and exactly how they'd do it.
It soon came to the point where she could guess how much a
person would lose or win when they walked in the bar, based
entirely on their demeanor and where they chose to sit.
Eventually, the other fairies decided to move on to another
place. A safer one. But Callie didn't go. She was too enraptured
by the gambling den. Growing more anxious with every passing
year, she finally made up her mind to attempt to join in on the
fun. Squeezing her way out into the tavern, she dropped down
onto a table, in-between two players locked in a game of cards.
As she raised her hand to issue her challenge, she was surprised
to find a glass jar being dropped down on top of her. The tavern
owner, a gruff dwarf named Grista, had captured her, with the
intent of putting her on display to attract business with the
promise of good fortune from her presence. Of course, Callie
wasn't fond of this idea. She pleaded for her release but it
fell on deaf ears... Until she uttered the words that would be
forever cemented in the ears of the patrons that day. "How about
a friendly wager?" She repeated the phrase that she had heard
many times before in her observations. It was essentially the
mantra of gamblers everywhere; A term that put all pretenses
aside in order to place the players on an even field. The tavern
owner's expression softened, and she agreed. Two games lost out
of three later, she kept her word and released the fairy,
expecting her to fly off free. Unexpected to everyone present,
however, Callie didn't leave. She turned to the player she had
originally interrupted and challenged them to a game as well.
The tales state that she beat every person in the tavern that
day, though she claims that it was an exaggeration.
She stayed on as the mascot for the tavern for a few years,
happily engaging in games and merrymaking with the patrons while
keeping up everyone's mood. This continued until she came to
meet a certain group of knights under the banned of noble house
Aerwin, from a neighboring town. A gang of rowdy knights that
frequented taverns, she met a few of their members while
performing her usual duties. They just seemed like ordinary
patrons at the time, but they wouldn't take their eyes off of
her. When they left, the true problem arose. The heir to the
house came by, hearing stories from his knights of a mythical
fairy in the tavern. He immediately challenged Callie to a game
after meeting her, and Callie, always up for a game, obliged.
She lost intentionally, then demanded a rematch, attempting to
lure him into betting high. And he certainly did. Unfortunately,
his request for if she lost was.. her. He wanted her for himself
if she lost. She obliged, expecting an easy win, but considering
the dire circumstances of the bet, she attempted to cheat. He
caught on. He remained quiet about it until the end of the game,
and as Callie was collected her winnings, he stopped her. He
pointed out exactly how she had cheated and claimed that because
of it, he had won. He then said that he'd give her time to say
her goodbyes, but would return the next month to claim her.
Callie did exactly that, but rather than waiting for him to come
back and take her, she chose to flee. She needed to get out of
the city, as soon as she could.
