I havent used it since getting it, so no clue on the orange cap.
Going to buy stihl oil cap to replace it anyways.
Just waiting on replacement bearing right now so that I could
make some test cuts.

I came up with a idea to get some test cuts on the 036.
I took the new needle bearings out of broken cage and put them
in the old clutch bearing cage snapping them in. Only a few
wouldnt just snap in and hold. Then used bearing grease around
it.
I filled the oil tank up to check the orange cap out for you. It
screwed on perfect and sealed perfect.

Checked some other things while in there, needs worm gear, oiler
spring, clutch drum has some play, rim, decomp, could use a new
piston kit as shown in pic, but ran fine with 140psi. Could
just clean up and re-ring too.

As far a muffler mod on this 036. There is no inner cage to open
up or remove. I would just open exhaust outlet on side or use
front cover and make a dual port cover out of it.

I saw an orange cap on a flea bay saw but it was even a
different design than that one . ??? Hard to say what fits what
.I have a Husqvarna cap on the McCulloch Titan 70 .I had to cut
it down a little and use an o-ring instead of what gasket came
with it but the threads are the same .
Ha the oil cap for an old Poulan s-25 is the same as a Briggs
and Stratton .

Something inside me kept gnawing at me to look deeper inside. So
had a spare 30mins to kill and opened it up. Glad I did now the
top ring was stuck on exhaust side.
Cylinder will clean up easily and piston could be cleaned up and
used, but being I may sale or trade this saw off down the road
I'm going to go with a new meteor piston kit which includes
those caber rings.
Scoring was exhaust side only.

Since you're going to sell it that's probabley the right thing
to do .It could be sanded out and probabley be fine .
I buffed the piston on the 038 Mag and I checked it the other
day when I blew the muffler front off and so far it's no worse
for the wear .

Your right Al. If I was going to keep it for sure I would just
clean the piston up and re-ring it. Not all that bad and would
smooth right out IMO, especially with that stuff you gave me.

Well yeah ,that lapping paper with a little kerosine can get
stuff pretty smooth .
On a scuffed piston low spots unless they are large won't
usually hurt you .It's those high spots that breaks the oil
surface tension that will screw you up .
You know when you think about there really isn't much oil in the
coating of gasoline and oil in the mix but surprisingly it's
enough .

Oh say while I'm thinking about just two-three days ago I had
the muffler cover off an MS 660 and was surprised it didn't have
cage either . I was erroniously convinced all Stihls had cages
in them .Live and learn .

When I was in trade school there was an instructor that was big
on teaching us to save certain parts if possible. We once built
an engine with all used parts except a gasket set. It ran great
and had excellent oil pressure. We used tissue paper behind the
main and rod bearing shells to set oil clearance. He was a great
teacher.

Another old trick is using brass shim stock to "slug" a bearing
.
