Stihl 036

What would you guys in the business of taking trade ins allow?
or anyone else with input give me your 2 cents worth, OK a
nickles worth.
Needing more knowledge then I have on trade in value on a clean
looking 036 pro with issues and rebuild time.
The saw still runs but is on it's last leg feeling underpowered
at 120psi in the cut. The piston does have some scuffing and
havent pulled the cylinder to see if it will be reusable ( my
guess it will be with just light scuff on piston). No clue on
bearings and seals yet.
Otherwise the saw is a clean homeowner owned firewood saw.
Guy is wanting to trade it in on one of my bigger used huskys.

Bigger Husky's as in a 372?? I do love my 036 PRO. Torqier than
a 262, It will pull a longer bar IMO.

Something in the 71cc 72cc 76cc range.
He would be happy with the new rebuilt 362xp he said. Only thing
I got way to much into it. New oem crank, tank, etc.
Wish I had a 365 top laying around.

I think it's a tough call .You don't want to screw yourself or
this other guy .
Maybe whatever the saw would be worth if in good condition
market value minus the parts and your labor at standard shop
rates .I doubt seriously if a Stihl dealership would give much
for this saw .
Then if you think about it if the parts were OEM Stihl and it
was the P and C you could get more in it than what it's worth if
you figured it like that .
If it's just the piston 40 bucks for a Metior piston and 2
hours labor give or take .My way of thinking about a 100-125
shop rates for the labor plus incidentals of maybe 15 plus 40
for the piston .Subtract that from maybe 250 tops for the saw
puts the value at less than 100 .Just my opinion .

Agree with Al! My .02. If the plastic is real nice 20% of new
is max I will put in a trade like you mentioned. I've lost
money on every one I put more in.

Oh I'm not much of a horse trader with few expections .Plus I'm
a tightwad about paying much for a saw .At one time I very
niavely got caught up in big McCullochs but since if they aren't
rare ,have fast potential or extremely cheap I have little
interest in any of them .
You know they made millions of chainsaws .It's not like any
special one is any better than the other of the same brand and
model number .Might be in condition though .
They like to brag them up ," ported by so and so " big deal they
aren't the only person in the world that can rework an engine
fer cryin out loud .
On a deal like this it seems to me that whatever is comfortable
with one another is the way to persue it . Kevin has the ability
to repair saws and 95 percent of saw owners do not so that is
worth something IMO .

I would allow him $50-75. If it is in excellent cosmetic
condtion, then you could go up without risking too much.

Came with a 20" 3/8 bar and some weird orange oil cap ??? It
starts, runs and cuts. Just needing some TLC with the 120psi.
