Muffler bolts 290 310 390 250 etc

Why is it (even on like new saws) in this series that the
muffler bolts like to twist into aka break when removing? Gets
old and only think I have gotten through 1 saw without breaking
a bolt. Stihl thinks their bolts are made of GOLD for the OEM
prices.
Even noticed most of the time if they dont happen to break they
loose the threads on the bolt on nut to removal. Are they that
freaking cheaply made or what.
Just venting on another muffler mod job with broken bolts and
threads coming off bolts and having to order more bolts and
nuts.

I tried to figure out from the IPL of an 029 .If the thing is a
stud with the nut on the outside they all jamb up .The danged
nut is out there where it gets screwed up being in the air .FWIW
the old Macs did the same thing if they were on a stud .
On the Stihls with removable covers and the screws inside they
never jamb up .
It's about the same as an exhaust manifold on a car engine .The
ones with studs and nuts you have a deal of time removing them
,Usually a bolt thread into the head comes out easier .
About the only cure I can think of is brass nuts if you can find
them in metric .FWIW the old Caterpillars used brass nuts on the
manifolds .

I dont have the 310 bolts for a pic right now. But here is a set
of similar smaller 025 bolts.

Can you hit them with Blaster before removal? I have only worked
on 1 290 series and it was a carb and fuel line issue. I dont
much care for those models.

I suppose you could heat the nuts with a torch .You'd have to
use acetylene because propane wouldn't rise the heat fast enough
.
About the only type anti sieze that would work I can think of
would be a product called Lead Pate but I'm not certain they
still make it anymore .Never Seeze might work but a muffler bolt
gets pretty hot .

MOS, tried the PB blaster on this one. Still ::) I think it
is just a way to get $4+ a bolt.
On the P 500 5000 muff bolts if one broke I could make one. But
being a customers MS 310 saw and in like brand new cond it's got
to go back oem.
Let just say the stihl guys dont like getting their arse handed
to them by yellow wth is that 49cc 55cc partners and yellow and
lime green 330 3450 3750 54cc 60cc poulans. LOL None were
muffler modded either. :D

MM done just got to wait on freaking bolts and nuts now. >:(
Cant do carb re-tune till I get then grrrr.
Guess I will go sharpen his chain. To think he told me he had
just sharpened it. :o ( I tested it stock as came in to see).

Not pretty but functions really well IMHO. I have seen 23% gains
on just a 290 with this simple caveman muffler mod. Takes about
30mins IF the freaking bolts dont break or the :-X :-X :-X
threads strip off.
