       Stihl Bar Stud Fix
       By: joe_indi Date: September 9, 2019, 8:38 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I had tried all kinds of fixes for the stripped thread on the
crankcase for the 8mm studs on Stihl saws, especially the
countless 460s and 461s that are in use here.
But all of them were cumbersome fixes, time consuming and could
       cause disasters on the crankcase.
That is, until I read a Stihl technical information on an
oversize stud for the 29/39 saws.
Self threading 9mm studs on the side that goes into the body.
       8mm on the outside.
But these were intended for the non metal housings of the
29/39/290/390 saws. They also had wider collars unsuitable for
the use I had in mind.
Anyway in 2001 I got myself a pack of 10 of these oversize
studs. Got a friendly tooling shop to reshape them on the lathe.
And they worked like a dream!
And I have been using this fix ever since. Time for the fix is
       just 10 minutes or less.
