       Poulan 2000

       My old Poulan 2000 is at least 30 years old. Maybe 38. So when
       it quit, I figured it was the typical deal of replace all the
       rubber parts. I totaled up the cost of fuel hose, carb kit,
       spark plug and plug boot. then I added $100 and ordered a new
       PP3816AV. It looks like the closest thing to the old saw except
       it has a slightly larger engine with forged crank & rod and of
       course it has one of those 2-hole carburetors and a blade brake.
       I like the lightweight saw and call it my "Old Man Saw". The big
       boys are so heavy that by the time I climb to where the tree is
       and pull the rope a few times I am already tired. I can cut more
       wood when my arms are not worn out from a huge saw. Anyway, I
       went out to the barn to reassemble the old saw so I could keep
       the parts together, and I found a tiny piece of sawdust stuck in
       the reed valve. Happens every few years... clean it out and the
       saw is fine again. So now I've got two saws, darn it! Guess I'll
       need a helper.

       I got back a poulan 2000 I had bought in 94. Still going only a
       coil gone bad and carb kit and lines.
       I had a 3816 or maybe it was 3516 newer strato design. Get you a
       spline carb tool, makes tuning easy. Come lean from factory most
       times.

       yeah, got the carb tools ordered. My old saw looks just like the
       one in back of your photo, but mine has a 16" bar. I'll post a
       pic but am waiting for new fuel line before I put it together.

       Yes 2000 in back. When bought mine new it came with 16".   I
       switched it to 12".   Just got it back from dad with 16" on it
       again.
       I have a bunch of parts for these if needed. Plus craftsman
       2300cva version I dont use. 1800 that runs but started to scuff
       piston it looks like when muffler was pulled last time.
       Thats a poulan XX 20 in the front.

       Little top handle 2000 I had bought in 94 new and later gave to
       dad to replace that mini mac I despised.
       Well this year dad had gave me back 3 saws I had shown earlier
       while I was down hunting.
       I was curious on the condition under the grime and if I could
       get it running. Well lets just say I made plenty of test cuts
       with 14" buried after a little fight with it.

       Back to the 12 again.   [emoji41]   Square filed PS3 for chain
       too. [emoji87]
       Bought in 94 new and later gave to dad. Got it back during deer
       season.

       UPDATE TO AN OLD POST:
       My PP3816A stopped running while cutting firewood from a fallen
       tree. It was running like Jack the Bear, slicing 8" logs like
       butter. While holding it at an almost inverted angle it coughed
       and stopped. Pulled the rope, and it felt like there was nothing
       on the other end. No compression. So I got out the electric
       DeWalt to finish up. Partial disassembly later revealed no
       obvious trouble. Piston looks fine thru exhaust port and bore
       looks good too, but I'm guessing the ring is stuck. Now that I
       think of it, it did run poorly when first started, needed choke
       for a minute or so. General wisdom seems to be that those strato
       engines are very sensitive to lean operation, so I guess I
       cooked it. Dragged the old Poulan 2000 out of the shed. It was
       overhauled with new fuel lines and carb kit years ago and put
       away dry as backup. Took a few primes and turning the needles
       back and forth a bit, and it runs like it did in the 1980s. So,
       the Old Man Saw is now the main saw for this Old Man, and the
       3816 goes in the shed for parts or possible future revival. Just
       like me, the old stuff is the good stuff!
