       hungup pine tree

No where to lay it exept in the tree tops, I'm not too good at
falling either. These hang up trees allways make me nervous,
allways by myself makes it worse but I got it down and I should
get 7 or 800 bd ft from it.maybe more, scale it tomorrow. Truck
shed is allmost ready to start nailing together

yep I cut a lot of lodge pole pine up the mountains every year,
about 20 to 30 trees. I have a winch that I can strap to
another tree and then pull the hang up down. I also will pull
a tree over when the lean is the wrong way and I need it to fall
in a certain direction. It works pretty good.
The winch is just a cheap harbor freight that did not cost a lot
to get but it does the job.

I've pulled them down with the truck or tractor and a chain.
I've also cut them off from the bottom.
Cutting from the bottom is tempting the "phantom", so be
cautious. Make a cut on the underside first so it doesn't split
and then finish the cut from the upper side. 6' pieces at a time
until the top falls on its own or the remaining tree gets light
enough to pull down with whatever rig you have - tractor - truck
       - or wench.
Careful - - as hung up trees often want to roll as they fall.

I like that winch setup, I got it down with the loader on
tractor and it did roll but I didn't get hurt. I got a few that
needs cut, none of them are clear to fall, they'll all be
       hangers.
       Thanks

How you work that block of pine will determine how you can avoid
       those hangups.
Looks like you're on level ground so it'd be easy to judge your
trees natural lean. All your trees in your block will lean "on
the average" in one dominate direction.
Up here our spruce and pine has a dominate south easterly lean.
So when I want to start felling, I start in the south east
corner of the timber stand hopefully into a clearing or cut
over. You may have to open up a clearing to work your "face" so
you can work as a skid trail. As you work your block the "face"
       is moving Northward.
Here let me draw a picture. A picture says a 1000 words Lol.

       Thanks, that's good information.
I must say this is a most helpful group, I'm glad I found it.

Don't feel so bad about a hanger .Just about anybody who has
felled any amount of trees has hung at least one .
Same thing about pinching a saw in a cut .I've already had two
saws pinched in the same tree and had to get a third to rescue
the other two .Things just happen .
