Red Maple wood

Red Maple good for anything ? I got one to take down, might be
20-24" thick at the first log and maybe 3--8ft logs.

If you know someone with a mill you could try to get some lumber
or I would probably use it for firewood.

I'll probably mill them in to 1by's and hope for the best, I
just hope they don't all split on me like the Hickory did. They
looked so pretty then started splitting before I could get to
the end of the log.

I cut it yesterday, it was doey in places, I'll check a little
today but I think it'll go to the burn pile. It had to go
anyway, going to fall on my building.

One of the logs seemed ok so I took a slice to see what it

Yep that is pretty nice looking. That could make an
interesting table.

Red and silver maple are not like good old sugar maple,called
rock in Canada .It burns but not that good.The lumber is soft
.They were planted mostly as fast growing shade trees .The life
of a silver is maybe 100 years .Most get hollow .Both sides of
my 500 foot driveway have both silver and red planted around
1982 and they are already showing signs of decline.What few
sugar maples are healthy as a horse.

I'm not 100% certain it's Red Maple, I just tried to compare it
to what I found on the Ga. forestry site. It is softwood for
sure and this tree was probably basket ball size in the mid 80's
when I built my shed. These trees grow wild here in my woods so
I can get the wood most any time, don't know how the wood burns
for heat but I've used it plenty in my smoker and a Pork roast
cooked for bout 10-12 or so hours sure is mighty good.
