CSM powerhead selection
By: thefishguy77 Date: July 6, 2017, 4:00 pm

Ok so I have a Echo cs6700 and it's been a great saw but I am at
the limit of the powerhead for a mill. I have some 36" maple to
get milled and feel I will burn up the saw if I try it. I have
gone through some 30" dug fir and with a sharp chain it did ok.
I am looking for an 088. Just found an 084 for $950. It comes
with a 36" bar. Say it runs perfect. Of course nobody would ever
sell non perfect crap. Besides starting it up what else should I
look for? This will probably be a dedicated milling saw. Going
to probably make a 48" mill for it. I can copy and improve on my
Alaskan 36" mill.
Is the 084 enough for a big mill. Could I get away with
something lighter? Looking for advise. Don't mind spending the
money, just don't want to waste it.

There is a 084 for $500 in Craigslist here in the thread. Might
check it and call.

084 will do fine. Parts are a little harder to find for them but
not impossible.

Just clicked it. Must have sold. Had 36" and 47" or 49" bars
too.

Ok so I am headed to my local dealer and price a new 661. The
084 looks like a great saw for me but price is saying otherwise.
I have 4 slabs that I'm going to try and fire sale and that
should give me enough for a 661 with a 36" bar. Going to have to
work until I can build a bandsaw mill.

Might want to look into a husqvarna 395xp for milling.

I prefer a 395 for that myself.

I will definitely look more in to the 395xp. Talking to a local
guy today that used to mill he recommended that as well
