       Stihl 090
       By: 3000 FPS Date: February 24, 2017, 6:55 pm

I do not think I posted any info on this saw that was brought to
       me for some work.
When first brought to me I just tuned it some and cleaned it up
and verified that the oiler was working ok.
This is what it looked like when I first got it. It seemed to
run ok and so I gave it back to the owner.

       Never had a 090 brought in. :o
You folks got trees big enough for those things left out there
       in WY?

Well about a month ago I was helping to take down a big Elm tree
and the owner of the 090 was going to stump the Elm and it
started running bad so I brought the saw home again to look at.
I rebuilt the carb on it this time a Tillotson and man does
this saw run good now. I think it actually picked up some RPM
from before and when put in the wood it went into 2 stroking it
really sounded strong holding the RPM's well. I also put a new
bar and chain on. 36" bar with .404 chain.
I did some noodling with it and those big chips crack me up.
       All my stuff is 3/8ths.

There are some 100 year old cottonwoods around here.

I keep looking for a complete one that won't break the bank,
they are fetching a good dollar here for milling. A mill I used
to do service for supplied the saws to the fallers in big WRC,
to simplify inventory they only had 090's. The barker saws ran
24" bars, I had to adjust the governors to keep them from over
speeding. The operators couldn't load them with the short bar.

What RPM did you adjust the governor for. I do not really like
       the governor on this saw.

I never bothered putting a tach on mine.
I disabled the govenor completely and just set the H screw like
       any other old school saw.
       Never had a problem.

       But if it's a customer's saw I wouldn't advise disabling the
       govenor. :D
My 090 owner manual says don't exceed 8000rpm.
