Penetrating oils tested

Does this sound right to you guys?
Machinist's Workshop magazine tested penetrants for break out
torque on rusted nuts with significant results!
They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants
with the
control being the torque required to remove the nut from a
"scientifically rusted" environment (obviously a BIG nut!).
Penetrating oil ...... Average torque
None ....................... 516 ft lbs
WD-40 ................... 238 ft lbs
PB Blaster .............. 214 ft lbs
Liquid Wrench ..... 127 ft lbs
Kano Kroil ............. 106 ft lbs
ATF-Acetone mix....53 ft lbs
The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50
automatic
transmission fluid and acetone. Note the "home brew" was
better than any
commercial product in this one particular test. Our
local machinistgroup mixed up a batch and we all now use it with
equally good results.
Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as
"Kroil" for about 20%
of the price.
Another method to try when 'nothing works' is to heat the
nut up with a torch to almost red hot, apply Bee's Wax to the
threads and base of the nut, let it sit for about 30 min then
remove the nut. If this doesn't work, get a nut cracker or a
hacksaw ! A trick I learned from Dugan that had been around and
passed it on to us. We used this method to remove big safety
valve nuts that had not been removed for almost 24 years when
nothing else worked. BO
Happy knuckle busting !
Copy and pasted from a email my dad sent me.

That makes sense .Acetone is a solvent which would carry the
tranny fluid into the offending tighter that a mouses ear
offending restriction .
Incidently last summer I ordered a gallon of kroil which freed
up a stuck Ford 300 six in my old pick up truck which resides
in the woods in semi retirement .Good heavens every month I get
a flier on good deals from them .
Good info .I have a stuck D4 Cat vintage 1940 that given enough
time I will ressurect .
I'll retire in a couple of years but will have to live at least
another 30 in good health to ever get all the stuff done . ;D

I've heard good things about acetone and ATF but for the things
I do a decent shot of Aero Kroil works great.

I think a lot of that stuff was just things shade tree mechanics
dreamed up .For example Berrymans Chem-tool was originally make
in Lima Ohio ,where I live .
I think it was a brain child of Charlie Paxton who was a stock
car builder may his soul rest . In later years Charlie lost both
legs to diabetes but still built engines even from a wheel
chair . Pretty impressive to a 16 year old of which I was when I
met him .

In my line of work it's not so much getting nuts loose, but
pulleys off shafts, and
and wheel hubs off axles.
The best product we've found is Castle Thrust, but at 7$ a can
we've done some un scientific
testing and PB Blaster, and Liquid wrench are almost as good and
under 4$ a can.
Never heard of the accetone and ATF trick, but i do have both
sitting around so i'll try it out.

I'll have to mix some of the acetone/atf together and give it a
shot. A friend of mine used straight atf sometimes for
penetrating oil and it worked alright.

Mix I found somewhere was 50/50 acetone and brake fluid. Tried
it, it works pretty good. Am gonna try the atf blend to see if
it's better.
