       Dolmar 111i carb
       By: 3000 FPS Date: January 18, 2016, 5:50 pm

I have Dolmar 111i that has the injection type carburation.
The I stands for the injection type set up on it.
Well any ways there is no choke on this carb but it does have a
lever that you still pull out that causes the injection to work.
Now Jim I know that you are pretty sharp on these Dolmars and
was wondering if you could explain to me how this injection on
this particular carb works. The one I have does not appear to
be working. I have to prime the carb to get it started and it
       then works fine.

The injector opens a fuel path from the pump directly into the
throttle air stream. This time of year it's not unusual to get a
one pull start with a cold engine. The engine will keep running
       with the injector on.
In the hot summer time they will usually quit before you can get
the injector off. Then they start up with the injector off.
The carb is made by Tilly. I bought a new one back 4 or 5 years
ago but they were around $75. My old one had a blown high speed
       check valve.
It would start and run OK but in the cut it would go rich.
There's also regular Walbro carbs for them but the choke lever
       is different.
       Most 111i's came with a 15" .325 and 8 tooth. The 111i came out
with a part time oiler in 1997. They were open port up through
1997 but after that they were closed port.
There was a latter 115 that was the same saw but with regular 7
tooth 3/8's, Walbro carb and closed port.
You will need to study the IPL carefully to pick up on all this.

So is there anything that can go wrong with the injection path
that can block the fuel from passing thru. Maybe something I
       can take apart and clean.

There's a little rotary valve in there and it can get full of
lint or trash. It comes apart and is a cylindrical affair on the
side of the carb. The choke lever directly opens the valve.
There is a channel back to the pump chamber. The fuel does not
go through the metering valve camber before it goes to the
       injection valve.
I remember reading about it somewhere, I don't remember now as
that was 4 or 5 yrs ago. It was either in the 111 repair manual
or the Tillotson manual for that carb?

Ok thanks Jim. That is a lot more than what I knew before. I
will have to take it apart and see if it has accumulated any
       dirt in there.

I also sent you the last ipl and a early SM which is somewhat
brief in Gmail. I looked on Google for info on the HU83F carb
but didn't find anything specific to the injector. I found a new
       carb for $98.

Got a 110i on the shelf needing carburetor rebuild. Was leaving
it alone until I had a clue so thanks for info.

These were Makita & Dolmar's most popular saws back in the 90's
and on up until about 2004. 5 years ago, used parts were all
over the place but are getting harder to find now. The cylinders
are no longer available from Dolmar. I have a good open port 111
cylinder if someone is in need. I also have a used coil. I also
have a brand new closed port cylinder, piston, & rings but I
want to hang on to them.
Using the 111i, it has more torque than the Stihl 026/MS260 but
       is slightly heavier.
