Bar to fit old GE ElecTrak Chainsaw
By: John Mc Date: July 27, 2015, 10:54 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Several Decades ago, GE made a 36 volt electric garden tractor.
There were all sorts of accessories you could get to plug into
it. One of these was a 36 volt corded electric chain saw rated
at 1 HP. The saw came with a bar that was 13" long. Does anyone
know of a currently available replacement bar that will fit? I'd
prefer in the 13 or 14" range for length.
Also, I've found a .325 pitch rim sprocket that fits the saw
(Husky #640 20 00-10. I believe this is the same thing as the
Oregon #11892). I'm wondering if there is a 3/8 LP sprocket that
will also fit. I'm guessing that 3/8 LP might be a better match
than .325, but I would take whatever bar and sprocket will fit
with minimum modifications. I'd also be interested in people's
thoughts on .325 vs 3/8 LP for this saw. Being an electric saw,
the torque curves are quite a bit different than those for a
       small gas engine.
The saw will be used on my brother's ElecTrak. It's more of a
novelty than something that will be used in regular cutting. He
might take it out for cleaning up a few blown down limbs after a
storm.or occasionally buck up some smaller firewood.

In the Oregon catalog there are pictures of the various bars
       they currently offer.
Remove your bar and compare with the "shadow" pictures in the
       catalog?

Thanks, I'll take a look when I get back home to the saw.

Does 3/8 LP chain run on the same sprocket as regular 3/8 chain?
A dealer told me yes, but I thought I remembered hearing they
       were slightly different.
BTW, the .325 sprocket that I have which fits (noted above) is a
       small spline (approx 3/4" ID).

The smaller Stihl consumer saws are noted for having the smaller
       spline.
Some people have run regular 3/8 pitch rims with (3/8 LP), low
       profile, or Pico chain.
Typically the small saws that run 3/8 low profile chain run a
spur in stead of a rim and also it only has 6 teeth on it.

I don't know much about Stihl saws, but was told they mainly use
       a mini (5/8" ID) or a large/standard spline (7/8" ID). If they
make a 3/4" that will work with 3/8" LP, I'll have to check it
       out.
Any idea which would be easier for a 1 HP electric motor to
pull, .325 NK, or 3/8 LP ? I don't use either on any of my saws,
so don't have much experience with them.

Can you take a pic of the old bar for us? Need to see a good
clear pic of the tail end of the bar. Measure the width of the
stud slot in the bar as well. I'm betting that they used a
commonly available bar mount when they designed that saw.
       Probably A095 small Homelite/Husqvarna/Pioneer, A041 small
       Poulan/Echo/etc, or similar.
These are what we're comparing against...
