       p41 on/off switch coil wiring
By: Bob Date: March 13, 2015, 8:56 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Hi I have a p41 saw made in the 1980s I replaced the cylinder
and piston, the kit came with a new flywheel and coil the
instructions said they had to changed for the new cylinder, after
installing them the on / off switch no longer works the saw will
start with the switch in the on or off position it will not shut
when you put the switch to off.
I checked the wires and they are all connected none are broken.
Not sure how to test the switch only has 1 wire going to it.
When I pull the wire off the switch and ground it to the metal
housing the saw shuts off. Not sure if I have something wired
       wrong?
Maybe someone has some ideas,a wiring diagram from an original
       p41.
       Thank You for your help.

Make sure the switch is grounded to the saw case. Check that
       with an Ohm meter.
The switch can be tested with an Ohm meter as well. With the
switch in the saw making sure the switch is grounded to the saw
case, not just the handle; attach the positive or negative lead
on the meter to the spade connector on the switch and the other
lead on the meter to ground. With the switch on the resistance
should be infinite. Switch off, resistance should be zero.
It sounds like the switch is bad or it's not grounded to the saw
       case.
Remember that the top handle which holds the on/off switch is
electrically insulated from the saw case by the anti vibe
mounts. There should be a ground wire from one of the reed block
to case bolts that is also attached to the top handle. If that
is not present the switch won't work.

Thank you fossil a wire is connected to the reed block mounting
bolt just like you said when I installed the new coil I
connected the other end of that wire to the coil mounting screw
I think the end of the wire should connect to the handle like
       you said.
Like a dummy I did not pay attention to where the wire was
attached when I took it apart I didn't see a place on the handle
where it originally attached but it had to be there, hopefully
       someone might have a picture.
Thanks for your expertise and response.

If you look where my finger is pointing, the wire attaches to
the underside of the top handle via this screw.
