old Rex

Here is an old saw restored to former glory by well known South
Australian restorer Wayne (gmax).
It was complete however Wayne gets full praise for doing this
wonderful restoration to original going status (as close to
anyway).
This saw has history and was given to me some years back. It was
a local fallers saw and on occasion a ''Hotel picnic racer''.
The former owner racing for bottles of beer as it was popular to
have woodchopping and saw racing in hotel car parks in the 60's
and 70's.
Hard to beleive men sawing, wood chopping and cross cut sawing
1/2 pissed racing for fun, would of been something to see.

I think i have seen pics of that Helsel super, never knew it was
yours...
This one i will be demonstrating during lunch break at the home
town of the original owner, it has gathered some interest
already and may well be the start of more ''show and tell''
stuff at our future race meets.
I sent him the pics and he was totaly delighted to see it
restored and can't wait to see it cut a block off.
I'm keeping it as it was used ie, solid bar and 1/2 inch chain
but i may modify a bar by shortening it for simplicity.

Yes the former owner said they were a bitch to start in winter,
he also said they used to break the handles ( obviously thats
why that one has that silly Victa handle). He learned to pull
the chord out 6 inches when stopping them also, it became the
normal practice and same on the older macs.

Kev, Rick built it from NOS Solo parts, he wanted to run it in
the vintage racing class so I sold it back to him. His family
used Super Rex's racing back in the day in Manton area.
