Devcon 14300 Plastic Welder
By: KilliansRedLeo Date: October 10, 2014, 8:57 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I have a HVA/Partner cut-off saw here that has a fuel leak in
the tank. It is in an odd place, right at the bottom of the
translucent fuel level window. Was talking to a Yamaha PWC
mechanic who told me that they have been using Devcon 14300
Plastic Welder to seal leaks in the plastic fuel tanks with
great success.
Got a package $14.00 and am going to try it, report back later.
Anyone have any experience with this stuff? I'm also wondering
if it could be used to repair stripped screw holes in fuel
tanks.

I'm anxious to see if the Devcon works for typically, nothing
will stick to polypropylene type plastics?

I agree Jim, but I've got it on there now so we will see. Given
the nature of the stuff, I haven't got much hope for it, Devcon
says nothing about polypropylene.

I worked for GE the majority of my working life and there were a
couple guys at that facility that stick welded polypropylene
often. We also had some process devices that were stick weld
fabricated of polypropylene sheet. UHMW and polypropylene sheets
(white nylon) may be different from injection molded
polypropylene?

Never used but wanting to see how it turns out.
I still just use seal-all on plastic tank leaks. Never had a
return yet.

Well it has been on there 6 of the 16 hour full cure time, can't
peel it off and it is not leaking so far. Will run it a little
and see if it leaks, report back.

So far so good! Used the saw most of the day yesterday cutting
cookies off a large 8 inch pipe to use as rollers under a truck
body a friend uses for storage at his business. Not a leak, and
the stuff is not peeling off which is what I expected to happen.
The stuff was used externally to seal a weep around the fuel
level window on a Partner K-750. I think 'Seal-All' would have
done the same thing for less money.

Yes, Jim, however the Devcon is 15-20$ and Seal-All is around
7$.
