       Echo GT 1100 coil .
By: Al Smith Date: August 18, 2014, 6:31 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I thought it was bad so I flea bayed one and I thought it was
bad too.Wrong the freakin magnets went weak in the flywheel .In
all the stuff I've ever fiddled with that's the first I ever saw
       that .
So I got a couple strong magnets and remagnitized to two outside
magnets and it fired right up .In rotation it goes south-north
-south .One for the books there ,wow. Now I wonder why in the
world they lost their retentivity ????

I've been on a weed wacker and blower kick here of late .In
addition to a brand new Stihl with less than two tanks of fuel
through it I must have 6-8 others .There are like stray cats
,they just arrive .Same with the blowers .So far in the last
week I've got 4 running ,gave one away .
The Echo tonight and a 31 cc Ryobe yesterday which has a reed
valve intake .Talk about power for a trimmer .

Didnt know you could remagnitize flywheel magnets .
Hope I dont have to ever hit you up for the info on this myself.
       Good to know it's possible.

Funny thing is if you surf the net the so called experts say you
can't .I didn't know if it would work or not .
Just stack up a bunch of magnets so they multply in strength and
kind of stroke the dead magnets with the right polarity .
Fact right after I made that first post I fired it up and cut
some weeds .Wow before too long I'll have a chainsaw for every
day in the month,a blower for every week and a weedwacker for
every day of the week ,wow . ;D

       Al,
There used to be some old Briggs Stratton literature floating
around the net on how to build an electromagnet flywheel
       "recharger" on the net.

They used to charge the magnets on things like Wico magnetos on
old tractors .It was just a coil and a battery .
It was just a stab in the dark for me .I figured the magnets
were soft iron which have a high degree of permanabilty so it
wouldn't take much to rejuvenate them .Worked ---so far . ;D
I did however set the air gap tight ,like 3 thou instead of the
       normal 8 to 12 thou .

       Al,
I have a bad 3120xp flywheel, I'll give it a try.... im thinking
someone with a hammer ruined the magnetism! Lol

I'm not certain weather a thump from a hammer screws them up or
       not .
The only thing I can think of and it's far fetched is if they
got stopped near top dead center where the either the charge
circuit or the impulse circuit were sitting over two magnets .On
a high compression 3120 I'd think that would only be possible if
the decomp were pulled .Wouldn't be hard though on a 23 cc weed
       wacker.
My wild guess is in the case you could in theory have a magnetic
path through the coil lamenations. However due to the lamenations
which prevent permanabilty of the core you could not permantley
magnitize the core .It's just a great mystery .

Late to the party but had same thing happen on echo gt200
trimmer about a month ago. We replaced the flywheel. If I ever
run into this again and remember I will give this a try
